Racing Tips: 8th June

Midweek selections for the PlayUp form analyst.

Sale R4 #15 Meridus $2.50 at PlayUp – Ran very well on debut at Wangaratta over 1100m, after getting back in the field in a race where the leader was the winner. Right from the outset, the shape of the race was against this horse from that settling position. He got home in the fastest last 400m and 200m splits of the entire program to run a very credible third. With race fitness and experience now on his side, I think he can go a few better here in a competitive 2yo event.

Sale R5 #12 Rowdy Rebel $6.50 at PlayUp – Was very good at cricket score odds first up, finishing fourth in a highly competitive BM64 at Sandown. She was last in running off a hot tempo, and ran a meeting fastest last 200m through the line after chasing the entire race to not be beaten far. Her last 600m was 6L quicker than class standard, and now second up with improvement I think she wins here. Out to 1200m is a positive, and cops another light weight thanks to Matt Cartwright.

Sale R8 #10 Spooning $10.00 at PlayUp – Think there are worse bets to be had than backing this Price and Kent Jnr mare first up here. She has a great fresh record, which includes a win at Pakenham on a rain affected track before she went on to run third in a Listed Adelaide Guineas. I’m certain that wet tracks are her go, and i’m happy to forgive her last prep where she struck nothing but firm summer surfaces. Drawn well in barrier five, finds heavy going, and jump outs leading in have been encouraging.

Canterbury R5 #6 King Kapa $4.80 at PlayUp – Have been waiting for this horse to get a drop back to midweek grade, after aiming up in town last start and being far from disgraced in a strong BM72. A horse who clearly handles wet going, as shown by his very close second at Scone two starts ago on a heavy 8. He has form this prep behind Athelric and Democracy Manifest, who are proven up in grade, and he strikes a winnable midweek event here from a perfect draw.

Canterbury R7 #1 Mr Tipla $6.50 at PlayUp – Had his first start in NSW last time out and was solid, finishing 3rd behind Wild Chap and actually in front of Kirkeby who he meets again here today. Difference is, he gets a good weight swing with the 2kg claim, and finds another wet track which i’m sure is to his liking. He was a Saturday class horse in Victoria earlier this prep and last prep, and has won two from six on heavy going, and two minor places as well. Drawn wide, he will push on and be there for a long way at double figure odds.
