Saturday selections from the PlayUp form analyst

Moonee Valley R5 #7 Jean Valjean $2.50 at PlayUp – Down in Melbourne from a very astute Adelaide camp, and strikes an extremely weak Saturday class race here. Two wins and a minor placing from the four starts this prep, and had excuses on Boxing Day when 3rd in a small field at Morphettville. Bit of a freshen since then, and won a trial comfortably about 12 days ago. Drawn perfectly here in barrier four, and the intent is signalled with the booking of J Kah here. Main danger is an ex-Sydney horse who always trials the house down but fails to produce on raceday.

Moonee Valley R6 #2 Quraysha $3.50 at PlayUp – Looks the best on a pretty low meeting, a mare who is flying at this track all throughout the prep. She put the writing on the wall three runs ago behind Redzoust when she probably should’ve won, then put them to the sword impressively two runs back by over 3L. Still not sure how she didn’t win last start when nutted on the post, but she comes here deep into the prep and rock hard fit. Will be back and stalking from the wide draw, and down to 60kg after the claim for Matt Cartwright who will be looking to atone from last start.

Moonee Valley R9 #13 Alverdun $7.50 at PlayUp – Ran massively first up at huge odds at Flemington, finishing third behind Obfuscation over the 1400m there which continued his good streak of fresh runs. Second up now, and has a strong previous win at this stage at Bendigo last prep, which signals he should be running very well here today. He probably should’ve won last start too, getting caught on the fence at crucial stages but then flew home inside the last furlong. Up to 1500m now is very strong, seeing that he is at his best over the mile, and has drawn nicely as well.

Rosehill R3 #2 Cosmic Minerva $2.50 at PlayUp – Looks the clear class runner of the field here, and should be winning to showcase that as well. Two runs this prep for a dominant first up win, and a close 2nd behind a smart horse in Ringmaster last time out. Coming here third up, drawn barrier two and maps perfectly on speed from there. The form out of the Gosford win has stood up terrifically as well, with the 2nd horse King Of Naples since winning comfortably at its last start.

Rosehill R5 #9 Perfect Proposal $3.80 at PlayUp – Keen on this Waterhouse & Bott trained 2yo to win the G3 Widden Stakes, a race which this camp have won numerous times in the past. This filly was very good on debut back in October, running second in the Gimcrack behind the smart Platinum Jubilee. She led them up on a bottomless heavy track there, and went quick in front too. She looked beaten at the top of the straight but kept finding to retake the lead, and was only swooped by an exceptional performance. Two trials leading into this prep have looked strong, she has matured physically and mentally it seems, and should run very well here from the low barrier.
