Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst

Gosford R5 #7 Hi Dubai $5.00 at PlayUp – Keen to follow this debutant winner who I think can measure up in this grade. The win at Canterbury on debut was very strong, setting a quick tempo in front and still finding extra lengths at the top of the straight to boot clear and win eased down. She didn’t muck around in the lead either, going 3L quicker than class average to the 600m mark. She then ran the second fastest last 200m split of the entire meeting, proving she expertly burned the candle at both ends. That is a fantastic racing style for this tight turning Gosford track, and now fitter with race experience she can only improve.

Gosford R6 #4 Nothinsweetaboutme $7.50 at PlayUp – Second up here, and comes off a galant run fresh at Randwick over 1400m, where she was only beaten just over half a length. She sat outside the lead on that occasion and fought hard to the line, and profiles as a horse who should get around Gosford very well. She can push across from wide and either lead or sit outside the lead again, and if she gets rolling on the turn I think they will have a hard time catching her. Comes into this with a dynamic second up record, and is a two time winner over this trip.

Mornington R2 #1 Alaskan Storm $2.20 at PlayUp – Third up here and ready to peak, a horse who looks primed to finally break the maiden status. Two runs this prep have both been here, including a very strong first up run over the 1200m. She over-raced off a hot speed there, and it was probably detrimental to her chances in the end. Although, she finished off with a fastest last 200m of the entire meeting through the line. Last start beaten a head on the line over 1500m after leading, I think they can find a middle ground here today with a positive settling position and her great turn of foot at the end. B Melham takes the ride, ready to win.

Mornington R7 #7 Fly Nice $4.40 at PlayUp – Very keen to see the return of this Maher/Eustace horse, who so often in her short career to date has raced outside of her competitive level. She was last seen finishing 8th behind eventually Everest winner Giga Kick, which is extremely strong form for a midweek race here at Mornington. The two times she has raced in either maiden or age-restricted events, she has won and run a close second placing. She won’t know herself in this BM64 race against her own sex, and jump outs leading in to this have been solid.

Mornington R5 #3 Coaxial $3.80 at PlayUp – Think this horse can give the race a real shake here, coming off strong runs in much harder BM64 races that what he meets today. Only about 2L off Ima Shelby at Sandown last start, where he came on well from a midfield position. Back to 1500m here I think will suit, and the big 3kg claim is a huge positive here bringing it down to the same weight as the current favourite. He maps well in the small field to only be a few lengths off the leader in running, and should be right there at the finish.
