Racing Tips: 16th July

Saturday racing selections from the PlayUp form analyst.

Flemington R1 #2 Giga Kick $1.95 at PlayUp – Looks a very smart two year old, who was immediately tipped out following a debut win at Sale in the summer. He won with a leg in the air, landing on speed and controlling proceedings before kicking away with the third best last 200m sectional of the entire meeting. Recent jump outs have looked good, and all figures from that debut win tell us that he is well above average. Gets a very handy 1.5kg claim for an in-form apprentice, and drawn nicely as well.

Flemington R3 #9 Angelic Scent $5.00 at PlayUp – Coming off the back of a strong first up win at Geelong, i’m tipping this mare can make it two from two to start the prep. She settled rearwards behind a strong tempo over the 1347m distance, and launched down the outside as the widest runner in the straight to score in impressive fashion. Sixth best last 200m’s of the day, and to do that off a very hot speed is ultra impressive. Fitter here, drawn barrier three and can settle closer, and again gets a very handy 1.5kg claim.

Flemington R6 #9 Squid Game $2.00 at PlayUp – Genuinely bemused that this horse is not odds-on yet, having run extremely well in good races in all three starts this prep. He should’ve gone extremely close to beating Inundation at Caulfield last start, getting held up at a vital stage and was only clear inside the final furlong. He still smashed the clock in his last 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals even with no room, and two starts back he ran within a length of future G1 star Passive Aggressive, and beat Kooled who was a winner last Saturday. Peaks here and wins!

Rosehill R3 #5 Pizarro $3.90 at PlayUp – Was very good fresh here over 1100m, finishing just over 1.5L off the smart Riva Del Sol. That was on heavy 10 conditions, which although suits the horse, was probably a bridge too far first up without any race fitness. Second up here, and will have improved a whole lot off that run, he returns to the track and finds an extra 100m as well. Will get similar wet conditions to his liking, and drawn very well in barrier two for Hugh Bowman who sticks aboard.

Rosehill R7 #9 Blesk $5.50 at PlayUp – Thought this O’Shea gelding was great first up behind a very in form horse, finishing midfield in the Jojo Was A Man race over 1400m at Randwick. He was caught in a tricky position behind midfield from barrier one, and that was unlikely the place to be on that track. Second up here, drawn better in barrier four, and will only carry the ultra lightweight 51kg after the claim. He is a previous second up winner, and clearly likes the sting out of the track as well which he gets today.
