Horse Racing Tips 3rd March 2021

Expert selections and suggested bets from PlayUp for racing this Wednesday

Sandown R2 #5 Yulong Code $2.80 at PlayUp – Comes here second up off the back of a gallant effort in G3 company last start when fresh. Settling off the speed that day, he was forced back to the rail in the straight and held ground through the line well enough. Fitter now and stepping to a mile should suit (although untested), he rates so much higher than any other runner here and will get a soft run from the inside barrier. Looks very well placed in this grade.

Sandown R4 #10 Home Rule $3.80 at PlayUp – Think the top weight in this race is a false favourite, and very keen to have a play on Home Rule down the bottom close to $4. Comes off a very smart maiden win at Warrnambool last start where he led and controlled the race. He recorded the fastest 400-200m split of the entire meeting, which was at the point he extended away from the field and put the race to bed. Holds weight here in obviously harder grade, but looks to have a lot of upside and will jump and lead again.

Sandown R8 #11 Fighting Harada $2.60 at PlayUp – Resumed off an extremely long lay-off last start, and came out to dominant the field and win in what was part shock/part expected of this once highly regarded horse. It was a great training performance to produce that effort fresh, and the win likewise rated very well. Second up and fitter again here, now to 1400m and is by no means out of his depth in this grade. Drawn well to get another comfortable run in behind the speed, with the leaders drawn out wide he can follow in behind them once they cross. A winner previously second up, and twice a winner over 1400m.

Warwick Farm R4 #6 Quiet Riot $2.50 at PlayUp – Resumes here off the back of two trials, impressing in the latest one at Canterbury when finishing right on the leaders heels in good time for the morning. Only lightly raced this 4yo gelding, with two career starts and already the one win on the board. He is very well educated with a number of trials, and looks to have matured and furnished nicely this time in. Suggesting we see the best of him this prep, he looks well placed here over 1200m fresh and is drawn for a good run. Could be too smart for these.

Warwick Farm R8 #4 Petronius $6.50 at PlayUp – Thought we are getting generous odds about a horse who races consistently well over the 1400m at Warwick Farm. He is yet to miss a top two finish here, and has a very strong fresh record of 5:0-4-1. Although there is obviously no win there, he is rarely far away and returning here on his favourite circuit could be the trick to getting a fresh win. His trials leading in have been sound, Nash hops aboard and he should be fit and forward to be competitive here against a strong field.
