Best Bets 8th February 2020

In front of us this Saturday we have a very exciting day of group racing, culminating in the G1 C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield, which has been won by the legendary Black Caviar. Also at Caulfield we have the Blue Diamond Preludes, Rubiton Stakes and Autumn Stakes. It’s nine quality races, with big fields and competitive betting in all of them. We then move to Sydney, where massive prize money is on offer courtesy of the Inglis race series. There is the $2mil Inglis Millennium, and $1mil Inglis Sprint, as well as a G3 Eskimo Prince Stakes. However, with the large amount of rain Sydney has experienced in the last 48 hours, this meeting is under some doubt to go ahead. Don’t worry though, PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has you covered with a number of key bets you must be having, including a few savers in case Sydney is abandoned. Check them out below!

Caulfield R2 #1 Acting $7.50 at PlayUp – Can’t believe the price that has been put up about this super talented Savabeel filly. Finished off last prep with a close up 5th in the G1 1000 Guineas, prior to that she won three in a row including a dominant G2 win. Comes here first up off the back of an outstanding jump out, showed great early speed to lead and was under an absolute stranglehold to the line, and still won easily. No knock on the competition, this is a very competitive race, but the price is so wrong and this should be your best each way bet of the day.

Caulfield R3 #4 Fresh (BEST) $2.80 at PlayUp – I’m confident this talented 2YO filly will be able to turn the tables on her opposition today. Last start was forced to sit four wide without cover close to the speed, and still managed to run on very strongly and go down narrowly to A Beautiful Night, who also lines up here. Is drawn much better today, will be afforded every favour from barrier one, and the extra 100m definitely suits. The win on debut two starts back was very good, and the form from that race stacks up.

Caulfield R8 #3 Scales Of Justice $2.80 at PlayUp – Coming off a super strong WFA G2 win at The Valley, this Lindsey Smith horse looks extremely hard to beat again. Got the splits at the right time last start and won well, that was over 1200m first up. Big step straight to the mile, but his second up stats are great (8:2-5), and likewise his stats at this distance (8:3-3). I think Lindsey would have put a bit of work into him since the last run to ensure that he is fit enough, the draw is no concern as he maps to slot in midfield with cover. Hard to beat.

Warwick Farm R3 #1 Kiamichi $4.20 at PlayUp – Putting this Godolphin galloper on top with a bit on confidence. Comes here to the 1200m first up off the back of three nice trials, the latter of which she won by near 3L against a nice field. She won on debut, so running well fresh is not a concern. The factor that gives me the most confidence, however, is the rain! She absolutely swims this filly, winning a G2 at Rosehill on a heavy 10, before backing up a week later and winning the Golden Slipper on a heavy 8. Whether they chose to race at Warwick Farm or Rosehill, the track will be a genuine heavy, and she will love it.

Warwick Farm R8 #3 Gaulois $3.90 at PlayUp – Comes here up to the mile third up looking to peak. Two runs this prep have been very sound, a good 4th at Eagle Farm before running on very strongly last start over 1400m at Randwick, in a race where the leader controlled the tempo in front and was never caught. Gaulois was a mile back that day and had very good closing splits off an unsuitable tempo. Key thing here is that he loves the wet tracks. Has never missed the top two in five attempts on heavy going, with two wins and three second placing’s. Drawn well, and holds a key race fitness edge over a number of his rivals who come here first up.

Morphettville R4 #1 A Knight In Paris $3.50 at PlayUp – This ex Mick Price horse lines up here for his first start in Adelaide under a new trainer. First up stats are good for this horse (2:1-1), and has looked sound in recent jump outs. His previous form in Melbourne looks easily strong enough for a race like this, a race which is lacking depth. Must respect this trainer/jockey combination, hard to beat.

Eagle Farm R3 #1 Galaxy Guru $6.00 at PlayUp & #13 Tactical Manuever $26.00 at PlayUp – Expecting a wet track up in Brisbane with the large amounts of rain they have had, which suits these two horses perfectly. Galaxy Guru has improved in two runs so far this prep, comes here third up fitter ready to peak out an extra 200m to the 1840m. The SP profile of this horse reads very well, having started double figures in both runs, and now in to a single figure price. Has won at the distance, and twice a winner in the heavy. Tactical Manuever is worth a small each way bet at massive odds. Ran well last start over this distance, albeit in a much easier race. Gets down on 54kg, and has great form on heavy going.
