Best Bets 24th March 2020

Tuesday racing takes to Geelong in Victoria for a competitive eight-race card, while Coffs Harbour plays host to a showcase meeting, with eight races likewise set down for decision. Couch punting is really stepping up a level thanks to the new Government restrictions, so let PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby hopefully find you some winners. Top five bets of the day are down below.

Geelong R1 #2 Assets $6.00 at PlayUp – Angling towards Assets in what seems to be a tricky opening affair. First up from a spell last start she raced wide, albeit with cover, over this track/distance, and held ground very well on the line into second. Comes here fitter for that first up effort, and maps to get a much easier run today from barrier three. She holds a fitness edge over some of her main rivals here today, and although this race may be harder she just looks to get a lovely run. Good chance, looks over the odds at around the $6 mark.

Geelong R2 #6 Lighthorse Lad $5.50 at PlayUp – Well documented that Mick Price took this gelding to Echuca last start to win, he arrived second up and started a short favourite, but unfortunately a few things went wrong in the run and he was unable to catch the winner. Steps up in distance out to the 1400m third up, where he will be nearing peak fitness and should definitely appreciate this extra ground. Drawn barrier one for a very economical run, he is getting out to an enticing price now. Would not be surprised with an improved showing here today, albeit in a harder race.

Geelong R4 #5 Mainland $4.00 at PlayUp – Comes here well into his prep, at peak fitness and out to the 2400m distance after some encouraging runs at 2000m. He has been freshened since a grinding effort last start when 3rd at Ballarat, he is a typical stayer who doesn’t show much turn of foot, but keeps finding the line well. The extra distance should suit him today, and the stable of Amy & Ash Yargi are absolutely flying, so expect this gelding to be in top notch condition. Yendall sticks aboard, drawn well in barrier four and should get every chance to take this one out.

Geelong R5 #10 Sheezabigdeal $4.80 at PlayUp – The last start effort of this lightly raced 3YO was a complete forgive. Over the 2000m at Ballarat, she was never clear at any point of the home straight, continually caught up on heels and running into backside. Arguably, she goes very close to winning that race with a clear run, as she had a very nice run in transit and plenty to offer. Two starts back she broke her maiden nicely over the 2000m, and the runner up in that race is considered a good chance in R4. She clearly appreciated stepping out in trip, and today she gets even more ground out to the 2233m. Forgiving last start, she looks a great winning chance. The smart punters haven’t missed her early, she opened as much as $16.

Geelong R7 #2 Living The Dream $3.10 at PlayUp – Looks hard to beat here. Last start racing first up at Flemington in listed class, he was simply no match. Coming here second up and much fitter for that effort, and most importantly returning to country grade. Last prep second up he was a solid maiden winner over 1400m, before going on to win twice at city grade. He’s won at Flemington over this distance, and should be looking to recapture some good form here. Drawn well in barrier 2, gets a 2kg claim for Will Price, and will appreciate a dry track. It all looks good on paper, hopefully that will transfer to the track.
