Best Bets 10th June 2020

Midweek racing rolls around again, and there are a very skinny number of acceptors lining up at Canterbury this week, which is disappointing to see even with the wet weather. For the first time in recent memory, only 6 races will be set down for decision today in NSW. A very competitive 9 race program comes from Sale, and the market will tell you that there are a large number of winning chances in each race. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has done his best to steer you into some winners, have a look at his five best for the day below.

Sale R1 #6 Spirit Of Giving $3.30 at PlayUp – Comes here first up and is only one of two horses in the field with race experience, which should take it a long way on its own. It had two runs in a debut prep earlier this year, and was unlucky not to win behind Valaquenta at The Valley. Valaquenta has since come out and won again recently in town, so the form is stacking up. Barrier 2 is a touch awkward as he can be slow to begin, but with any luck in running I’d say he goes very close here. Selections: 6-8-9-3

Sale R8 #7 Walking Flying $3.50 at PlayUp – Returns from a quick freshen here and drops back down to the 1700m journey, which I think will suit. She has spent the better portion of her prep contesting group level races in Adelaide, and running very well in them. Two back she finished less than 2L off the winner in the G1 Oaks, and then was given no hope last start against the on pace bias in listed level, when settling off the speed. Back to midweek benchmark grade and well weighted, any luck from the wide draw should see her going very close. Selections: 7-11-3-14

Canterbury R1 #1 Camerlengo $2.35 at PlayUp – On debut here out of the Waterhouse/Bott yard, and has showed an abundance of talent in all his trials leading in. What impresses me most from his work is his ability to sustain a high cruising speed from the very start, and his last two trial wins have been very strong throughout, without ever being asked to extend. From barrier one here today he jumps straight to the lead, and should prove very hard to run down here. Untested on heavy going, but did win a trial on soft 7, so may not be an issue. Selections: 1-6-10-4

Canterbury R2 #2 California August $4.20 at PlayUp – Going with this Snowden runner here, who is first up off the back of a nice trial win lately. That was over the longer journey of 1080m, so he is sure to be forward enough to run a solid 1250m on a heavy track here. Drawn for a suck run behind the leaders in barrier two, he should have the perfect sit on them and can get past if they overdo things in front. He ran nicely on debut on a heavy track and looked to handle it well, so i’ve no concerns here. Selections: 2-4-1-5

Canterbury R3 #2 Monsieur Sisu $3.90 at PlayUp – Comes back to Canterbury here after running ok last start under a mammoth weight. He loomed in on the turn out wide as the winner, but peaked on the run and was no match for those who settled on the speed. His wet track stats are very good, recording 9:3-2-2 on heavy going, and is a winner also at the 1900m distance. Fitter again now and maps well, and most importantly drops weight from last start. Should improve here. Selections: 2-4-1-7
