2020 Melbourne Cup Futures Betting

The 2020 Melbourne Cup is fast approaching, with the “Race that stops a nation” set for the first Tuesday of November, which this year falls on Tuesday November 3rd. No matter who you are, everyone loves to have a little flutter on the Cup, so we thought we’d provide you with a simple step-by-step guide to placing a futures bet on the Melbourne Cup.

When you have created and logged into your PlayUp account, you’ll be greeted by the screen below. To access horse racing betting markets, click on “Racing” on the left-hand side to open the racing drop-down menu.

Once this is open, click on “Thoroughbred Racing” to show all the betting options for Thoroughbred Racing. You’ll see markets for the day’s racing and it is the most commonly used page for the racing community.

From here, you will see multiple tabs – Results, Today, Tomorrow and Futures.

Since the Melbourne Cup is still a few weeks away, you’ll find the markets under the “Futures” tab. As the event gets closer, the markets will move to the quick-access “Featured” area underneath the main menu.

Click the Futures Tab and it will open all the futures markets that are currently available. Futures markets are ideal for punters wanting to try and secure an early price and most of the time, that price is much better than what is available on race day, especially if the horse has performed well in the lead up to the race.

Click on the 2020 Melbourne Cup (ALL IN) selection. From here it will open the market for the horses possibly racing in the 2020 Melbourne Cup. Remember this is an “all in” market, which means if your horse does not run in the Melbourne Cup for any reason, then your wager will be lost. This is before final fields and barrier draws, so these types of bets are high risk but can be high reward.

To place your bet, select the runner you want, whether it be in the WIN or PLACE betting market. This price is locked on a Fixed Price but the market can change with an influx of money. As you can see I have clicked PRINCE OF ARRAN to WIN which is paying $10.00. In the bet slip on the right-hand side, I have placed a wager of $10.00 at the price of $10. My potential return is $100. Once you have picked your runner and put in the amount you want to bet, click the “Confirm” button and that’s it! You now have placed a futures bet on the Melbourne Cup 2020.

So who might be a good Melbourne Cup futures bet?

The team at RacingBet think there are three horses which look like nice early plays – two of them are incredibly good odds and will be in the thick of things providing they run. PRINCE OF ARRAN is $10 after a brilliant run in the Caulfield Cup and he has been well found, so you’re probably now best waiting for race day to play. ASHRUN from the Australian Bloodstock team looks a nice value chance at $20. The early money has come for him and the price has dropped, but he still looks a good play. The third one at good odds is NICKJACK CAVE who will go awfully close to getting a run. He is currently $51 in the futures market which is a nice price for a speculative play as he will end up much shorter if he gets a run.
