Huge day of G1 racing from both Sydney and Melbourne, with no shortage of betting opportunities throughout both programs and elsewhere. The G1 Epsom and Metropolitan headline the Randwick program, while we see the reigning champion Verry Elleegant take on the up-and-comer Incentivise in the G1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. Flemington R3 #4 Stalking $12.00 at PlayUp – Having a play each way on the Godolphin runner, who comes into this G2 off an eight week break between runs. She was last seen running a very unlucky 4th behind Sunfall here over 1400m, getting squeezed between runners in the final few strides as she was charging to the line. Forgot You ran third in that event and has since won twice at good level, franking the form. She has had two jump outs in the break between runs, so there is no issue regarding fitness, and out to a mile here suits for sure.
Flemington R4 #1 Zoutori $3.50 at PlayUp – Keen on Zoutori defending his crown in the G2 Gilgai here, after winning this race stylishly back in 2020. His resumption in the Bobbie Lewis last start was enormous, spotting his rivals up to 4kg in weight and hitting the line extremely well. Those rivals now rise up to his weight more or less, so Zoutori gets a great swing here and that should allow him to reverse the margin. He looks in career best form, and is a four time winner at the track and trip as well.
Flemington R7 (G1 Turnbull Stakes) #3 Incentivise $2.60 at PlayUp – Sticking with the boom horse here for the Moody camp, who came to Melbourne for the first time last start and made a statement winning the G1 Winx Stakes after leading throughout. It was a perfect pipe opener for what is hopefully a successful campaign that results in wins not only in this race, but the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate as well. With the smallish field here, expect him to lead and take it up at a good tempo, as he can sustain a very long gallop in front. He will put others out of their comfort zone, and this 2000m trip is ideal for him to lead, dominant and win.
Randwick R3 #13 Victory Moments $4.20 at PlayUp – Always exciting races are the 2yo debutant events, and this K Fogden galloper down from Queensland looks the real deal. He trialled at the Gold Coast back in early September and was very impressive, so was then brought down to the official 2yo trials at Kensington and won it in a canter. He showed great tactical speed from the gates, and a superb turn of foot under little riding in the straight. The time was very good for the morning, and I expect him to make a winning debut here.
Randwick R5 #2 Keiai Nautique $5.00 at PlayUp – Third up and time to break through for the full brother to Fierce Impact, coming off an outstanding Aus debut in the G1 Winx Stakes before a gallant effort in the G1 Maybe Diva at Flemington. He absolutely rocketed home fresh and probably goes close to winning with a few more strides, and nothing made ground in the Makybe Diva but this horse ran some of the best closing sectionals of the race. Back to Sydney a tick, G Boss back on as well will help, and the drop to a small G2 field enables it to sit closer, and pounce when it counts.
