A typical winters race day coming at us this Saturday, but that doesn’t stop us from finding just as many winners as usual. Take a look below at the PlayUp form experts’ selections at Flemington and Randwick on competitive cards from those venues.
Flemington
R1 #4 Mamool $3.60 at PlayUp – Key scratching of the Godolphin early favourite means that Mamool now has a great chance to win the opener here. He’s only had the one run, finishing 3rd on debut at Geelong over 1330m. He had not much luck in running and was hitting the line very strong late in the piece. Out to a trip now 2nd up looks positive, and he will be much better for the racetrack debut in terms of experience and fitness. This looks like a pretty weak 2yo race, and he looks to have great upside.
R5 #13 Lowanna Magic $4.60 at PlayUp – Keen for this horse to go a few better today, returning to the track and distance where he finished 4th in a Listed event behind The Astrologist. The beaten margin looked unfair, as he was forced to race in the restricted room in the latter stages. Back to BM78 level here and only has to rise 2kg, this is a much easier contest where he can atone for the last start defeat.
R7 #10 Dirty Thoughts $3.00 at PlayUp – A very promising filly for the Ellerton/Zahra team resumes here, and this looks a great starting point for what could be a very exciting Spring carnival. She was G3 placed last prep behind Swats That, who subsequently ran alongside September Run and other top-class horses. She is bringing in the best form lines to this race out of any horse, and it’s only a BM84 where she will carry 54kg. She looks unbelievably well placed and should handle the straight with no issues as she is trained on course.
Randwick
R4 #8 La Chevalee $2.35 at PlayUp – We are convinced that this Maher/Eustace mare will be eventually winning down in Sydney, and now with the booking of J Mac in an extremely suitable race, she looks too good to pass up. Both runs in Sydney so far she has not been beaten far, she was luckless two runs back at the Randwick mile, before spotting a very slow tempo too big of a start at Rosehill last time out. Rock hard fit now, out to 1800m a great move, and the rider change is a cherry on top.
R9 #9 Steel Diamond $7.50 at PlayUp – Third up here and ready to the peak is this Waller mare, coming off two encouraging wet track performances so far. She was very good behind Gravina when fresh here over 1200m, and then got back to near last at Rosehill last time out, and was not suited by the shape of the race as the leader controlled and won by a big space. Now back to Randwick, sticks to 1400m, has a very suitable low draw and handles the wet going as well.
