Racing Tips: 24th May

Midweek racing selections from the PlayUp form analyst.

Canterbury R2 #2 Pierossa $2.80 at PlayUp – Back to the same track and distance for career start number two here, after being nailed on the post on debut by Amati. She settled nicely midfield and worked home very well in the heavy 8 conditions, signalling she likes the sting out and clearly moves around Canterbury well. Fitter now, and will most definitely be improved for the race day experience of last start. Sam Clipperton is booked to ride, and he cannot be stopped at the moment riding in career best form and coming off a G1 Doomben 10,000 lately.

Canterbury R5 #7 Brimstone $6.50 at PlayUp – First up here, and is actually first up for the new stable being an ex-NZ horse who has made the move across the ditch. This gelding by Smart Missile has had two trials leading into its Aus debut, both of them over the longer 1000m which should bring its fitness right up. They have been very soldi hit outs where he looks a strong, well moving galloper without being placed under any pressure. Should handle a wet track, drawn better out wide, and gets the booking of J McDonald.

Canterbury R6 #7 Jayanthi $4.60 at PlayUp – Victorian galloper who comes to Sydney for the first time, and it seems as though the stable are chasing wet tracks with him which he will definitely find here today. His lone win at Ballarat was very good two runs ago, and has been minor placed on a heavy 8 and a soft 7 as well. Drawn wide is a positive, he looks a smart horse, and I like the fact they have engaged H Bowman here which signals intent the horse should run extremely well.

Sale R5 #4 Bold Hoi Ho $3.10 at PlayUp – Very impressive debut winner, who led them up at a good clip and extended the further the race went on, winning by over 2L eased down late. That was over 1300m on a heavy Bendigo surface, so coming off that run he should be much fitter and can improve again now. 1400m looks a perfect placement, and he can work forward from the wide barrier to sit handy again. Looks a talent, always hard to go from maiden to BM64 class but I believe he can win again.

Sale R7 #4 Brownie $2.20 at PlayUp – Comes here first up with E Brown in the saddle, and showed some great potential in a few wins last prep. She put away a handy field at The Valley in a competitive BM70 in her latest victory, and prior to that had solid wins at Mildura and Kilmore which were backed up on the clock. I think she can fire here fresh, even though she got beaten 8L on debut last prep that was a heavy 10 surface and completely incompatible for her. Drawn nicely, and looks well weighted against this opposition.
