Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst

Bendigo R3 #1 Captain Britain $4.40 at PlayUp – Was very good at Geelong over 1400m on debut, running 2nd at big odds from a very hard winning position. He was back in the ruck as circumstance from drawing wide there, and had it all ahead of him at the top of the straight. He railed back to the fence and made very good ground inside the final furlong, running the second fastest last 200m split of the entire meeting. Second up here and is open to much improvement, and will find similar heavy track conditions that he obviously can handle.

Bendigo R4 #8 Spylark $5.00 at PlayUp – Ran very credibly first up here ver 1300m, finishing 3rd but was beaten under 1L on the line. He copped a crucial check off heels at about the 150m mark just as he was looming into the race, which unfortunately stopped all momentum and ultimately cost him the win. Second up here, proven to handle the heavy going, gets an extra 100m in distance and draws very nicely in barrier three. All these positives should lead to a win here, and a first career victory in Australia for this ex NZ horse.

Bendigo R6 #3 El Salto $5.00 at PlayUp – Proven wet track performer here from the Stanley yard, coming off three wet-track runs this prep for a win at Echuca two starts ago and two very close 2nd’s and 4th’s either side of that. Three out of four career wins for this galloper have been on rain affected tracks, and he looks ready to peak here off a very unlucky Mornington placing last time out. He was terribly held up behind slow horses mid stages and once clear, flashed through the line with a meeting fastest last 400 and 200m but missed by under half a length. Drawn a touch wider here is good, should be winning.

Canterbury R2 #4 Eponymous $10.00 at PlayUp – The form guide will tell you this expensive colt for C Waller ran 5th beaten near 3.5L first up, and although true it really doesn’t explain how promising the run was. He was midfield in the small field, with the leader absolutely walking in front of him and the further they went the less his chances of winning became. He ran on very well with not much luck, and now second up with a drying track i’m sure he can improve. A senior rider hops on for this race as well, which should help his chances.

Canterbury R6 #4 Duchy Of Savoy $4.80 at PlayUp – This horse was electric in winning first up down in Victoria, running meeting best sectionals to put a handy midweek field away in what was an exciting return to racing. She came to town at Randwick last start and went very close to winning again, beaten just under half a length on the line in a very strong mares BM78 race. Third up here and looking to peak, she drops back to midweek grade which will really suit her and still gets a big claim as well which helps the big weight. Any luck from a wide draw and she will be right in the finish.
