Racing tips: 17th August

Great day of midweek racing coming up, and our PlayUp form analyst has found some winners below.

Cranbourne:

R4 #4 Xtra Gear – $2.60 on PlayUp Speaking of Xtra Gear, it looks as though this runner has found some new gears in the time off, as it has been trialling extremely well leading into this prep. Her form last prep, including in G2 and G3 races is extremely strong, and now returning as a 4yo mare she looks ready to go on with it. Strong through the line in both trials and jump outs, she has drawn perfectly here in barrier two and gets a senior rider for her return. Has a real liking for wet tracks, and should eat up these heavy 10 conditions.

R8 #1 Zipping Boy – $2.20 on PlayUp  Time for this horse to stand up and win this prep, and likely wont find a better opportunity than today. He was extreCmely unlucky not to win first up at Caulfield, sitting deep without cover on a hot speed to be only beaten a pimple by a proven city winner who carried 6kg less than him. He was fine second up, and then last start finished behind Chain Of Lightning and  Fire in a very strong form race. Fourth up, gets a claim, drawn well and handles wet ground.

Canterbury:

R5 #2 Papal Warrior – $7.00 on PlayUp Surprised about the double figures on offer at time of writing, about a horse who has been running admirably in strong Saturday races for the last few preps. In two runs since a spell, he finished fourth to Cross Talk at Randwick and got too far back behind Sur La Mer at Rosehill last start. Third up here, and finally will appreciate a drop back in class returning to midweek grade. The wide draw suits on this rain affected track, and speaking of that he has an excellent heavy record with 8:2-4. James McDonald sticks on him, which is encouraging and he deserves a chance here especially at the price.

Ipswich:

R7 #10 Nasha – $12.00 on PlayUp Ex-Victorian horse who makes her Qld debut now with the new stable, and I thought was worth a go at the price. She had three runs in Vic for an extremely unlucky fourth on debut, where she finished off in a meeting fastest last 200m split from the rear of the field, and that was against a huge on pace bias at Benalla as well. Her Wangaratta win over 1400m was strong, and she has since won a trial at Doomben over 1000m by a good margin leading into this. Gets in with no weight after the claim for a very talented apprentice rider, and is surely worth an each way ticket here.
