Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst

Sandown R1 #6 Rackermann $2.05 at PlayUp – Very keen to back this Hayes’ horse having start number two, coming off a great debut placing at The Valley. He got back midfield behind a smart horse who led at slow tempo and proved far too strong, but I love the way Rackermann closed off from a hard winning position off that tempo. His last 200m split was inside the top 10 of the entire meeting, and looks a horse who will relish stepping up to 1400m with fitness and experience under his belt.

Sandown R2 #10 Vankukla $9.00 at PlayUp – Third up and looks ready to peak here for team Busuttin and Young, coming off a strong Cranbourne 2nd placing last time out. He found a spot in behind the leader that day, who absolutely walked in front and then went on to win the race. On the turn, this horse saw nothing but backsides at a crucial stage where he needed to be out and building momentum. Once clear, he flew home in a meeting fastest last 200m, but the winner had bolted. Can peak here, drawn barrier one for another suck run, and just needs even luck to win.

Sandown R6 #6 Ocean Raider $8.00 at PlayUp – Comes here second up, off a promising third place at Wangaratta where he definitely should’ve won with even luck. Got horribly held up on the turn behind tiring horses, and absolutely flew home once clear to only miss by half a length. Fitter for the run now, and I don’t mind sticking to the 1300m as long as he gets clearer room in running this time around. I think he will get that, seeing his midfield draw allows him to sit in the one out line with cover, and looks great each way price.

Wyong R3 #2 Mr Wallace $2.50 at PlayUp – Still not sure how this horse didn’t win at Gosford last start, if you watch a replay of the finish you’ll be shocked to learn that the photo went to Smooth Flight, and not this Godolphin runner on the line. It was a very slim defeat that the team will be eager to atone for, and they find a very winnable midweek race again here at Wyong. Drawn well, and should be sent forward from that to control proceedings in front. If he gets it his on way, he will be winning this time around.

Wyong R6 #7 Sovereign Fund $9.00 at PlayUp – Really surprised at the price on offer about this Snowden 2yo debutant, who is clearly looking to book a ticket to the Gold Coast in this Magic Millions race. I really liked his latest trial at Canterbury, which is a tight turning track similar to what he will encounter this afternoon at Wyong. The booking of James McDonald in a race like this, where he would’ve arguably had the choice of a handful of rides, is a strong push to be backing him. The Snowden team have been publicly confident about this horse as well, all signs say back each way.
