Another big G1 day of racing upon us, with the light shining yet again on Eagle Farm for the running of the Stradbroke and the JJ Atkins. Two outstanding races at the top level, are sure to be exciting contests which headline what should be a great day in Brisbane. Our PlayUp form analyst has offered tips for both those G1 races, as well as some selections from Sandown and Randwick. Take a look below.
Sandown R3 #4 Retrovailles $10.00 at PlayUp – The lightly raced 3yo filly from the Price/Kent Jnr stable gets the nod here in the third, a BM78 over 1300m. Only having two starts so far, her debut maiden win was extremely impressive at Geelong on a rain-affected surface. She bolted in by over 3L eased down, and it rated very highly as well. Then spelled, resumed the last start at Hamilton and looked to have won to the eye but was denied in a very tight photo finish. Now up to 1300m second up with added fitness, and back on a heavy surface, she can be too good for this bunch. The 3kg claim takes her below the minimum as well, hard to beat!
Sandown R6 #10 Ocean Miss / #19 Sukoot $2.50 at PlayUp/$13.00 at PlayUp – Going with a two bet play here, starting with Ocean Miss who was an absolute certainty beaten last start at Flemington. Held up until the final 100m where she flew home and somehow missed, she really should’ve won by the length of the Flemington straight. Sticking to a mile suits, and from a wide draw will be very unlikely to encounter any traffic problems here. The booking of J Kah is another huge positive for this horse, and she is likely to start favourite. Have a saver on Sukoot as well, who looks well over the odds. She ran 5th last start but never had much room in the straight, and actually beat Ocean Miss that day too. 4 weeks between runs, but carries minimum weight and has great heavy form as well.
Randwick R1 #6 Sacred Field $5.00 at PlayUp – Sticking solid with the Hawkes’ galloper here, who has a beaten favourite on debut behind Park Avenue after seemingly having every chance that day. That’s not to say he was disgraced though, he was only beaten 0.7L on the line and it was definitely a pass mark on debut. That winner Park Avenue now has to ride 2kg even with the claim, whereas Sacred Field is only up 0.5kg. With his pattern, he should be able to peel off the inside fence, and he also won a trial at Rosehill over 900m on heavy 8 conditions by 5.5L before his first start. I’m taking that as a sign he flourishes in the wet, and the SP profile is a good sign too.
Randwick R7 #14 Ballistic Lover $5.00 at PlayUp – Cannot believe the price about this Joe Pride galloper, second up here coming off an absolute domination job in the Listed Denise Joy, where he won by over 2.5L extending through the line to make it two from two this campaign. Just under a month between runs, he comes here to a heavy track having handled these conditions before and is drawn perfectly out wide so that he will find the best going when necessary. Horse and stable are absolutely flying at the moment, and he will only carry 53kg here under R Bayliss, which is a huge drop of 5kg from the Listed win last start.
Eagle Farm Stradbroke Tip: #7 Wild Planet $8.50 at PlayUp – Went enormous fresh in the G1 Doomben 10,000, almost knocking off Eduardo in what has proved to be a great form line. 1400m now second up is a huge positive, and any luck from the wide draw has him right in the finish.
Eagle Farm JJ Atkins Tip: #8 Blushing Tycoon $19.00 at PlayUp – Great each-way chance, coming off an impressive Flemington win where he showed great tenacity through the line to fit back and win after looking beaten at the 200m. Narrowly beaten in the G3 Sires Produce at Morphettville, the run at Pakenham prior to that was likewise very good. Pushes up from the wide barrier to be on speed, and will be there for a long way.
