PlayUp form analyst’s midweek selections for Bendigo and Canterbury.
Bendigo Race 2 #5 Magnalicious $21 at PlayUp – Sticking with this Osborne filly here, who lines up at big odds and look seemingly under framed by the market. Second up into the prep here, she resumed with a very tough effort at Kyneton where she was forced to sit three wide without cover the entire trip. Back to 1100m now with fitness should suit, and she maps to push forward and lead this field easily, with a lack of speed on paper. Looks well suited, shouldn’t be this far in the market.
BendigoRace 5 #3 Cernan $2.70 at Playup – Finally looks set to break through for another win here fourth up into the campaign, coming off three gallant efforts so far. Settled last when fresh at The Valley, and flew home in the fastest last 600/400/200m sectionals of the entire race. Then returned to The Valley where she was yet again not suited by her racing patter, and last start at Sale found trouble again in the straight, which cost him the win. No excuses now in the small field, 2400m suits and should be winning this.
Bendigo Race 8 #8 Palace Whisper $3.60 at PlayUp – Giving this horse another deserved chance here, coming off a complete forget run last start. That was in the Bendigo Guineas at Listed level, and she pulled up lame and also scoped with mucous. Her run two back at Sandown lakeside is what i’m basing her off, and that was a strong swooping win over the 1300m, where off a hot tempo she ran very good closing sectionals and mid-race splits to win. She can settle closer here third up, possibly outside the lead or with cover one back, and looks very well suited back to bm70 grade.
Canterbury Race 1 #2 Kahuka $5.50 at PlayUp – Tipping this Waller runner here in the opener over the more fancied stablemate, just due to the mapping and speed expected in this 1550m event. From barrier 1, I expect Kahuka to jump and land right on the bunny, and in turn suit the tempo to himself in front. The opening events at Canterbury can often play very favourable to the lead/inside running, so with the position found he could take a lot of beating. Better for the debut effort at Hawkesbury, can go a few better here.
