The Samantha Grenfell kennel, from Anakie in Victoria, completely dominated the final of the Graeme Hull Memorial saw Wagga Wagga Cup last night, when the kennel filled all three places in the Group 2 event., a simply stunning performance. Wife of leading Victorian trainer Correy, who put the collar and lead on such stars as Orson Allen and Tiggerlong Tonk in recent years, Samantha is now building a name in herself in her own right as the kennel has been going from strength to strength in recent months. Jumping straight to the front from her inside draw, Vayda Bale never looked in danger of losing, winning clearly from kennel mates Xavier Bale and Nikoli Bale. All three greyhounds were bred and are owned by the Wheeler family.
Six heats of the world’s richest staying race, The 715, will be run tonight at The Gardens, with this being the inaugural running of the event. It follows on closely on from the huge success of the Million Dollar Chase for the sprinters. It has been a long time since we have witnessed six heats of any staying event, so the event has been well supported by the participants. The one greyhound we would love to have seen in the heats but has been forced to miss due to injury, is the West Australian star, Mambo Monelli. It will surely be a great night of racing at the Central NSW track, so hopefully we can find a winner or two for our followers.
The Gardens Race 5 No 6 Sound Of Silence $1.95 at PlayUp – Has been mixing distances in recent months during the Golden Easter Egg and Million Dollars Chase Series, but in recent weeks has proven that staying is his forte. Two very strong performances at this track and distance of late, running fast times in the process. Should be able to find the lead early in this field, despite an awkward draw, and once in front he can run times that will make it hard to run him down. Look for Zipping Virginia (2) to run an improved race. Selections: 6-2-5-1.
The Gardens Race 6 No 7 Zipping Kansas $2.10 at PlayUp – Looks a real two dog race. We have selected Zipping Kansas despite his recent performances being below expectation. He can find the lead from this wide draw. Has a massive motor. The danger being Jarick Bale (1), who is virtually unbeatable off the red box, so it is sure to be a great duel up front. The track record can fall, in this heat. Selections: 7-1-8-3.
The Gardens Race 7 No 3 Cool Bourbski $2.40 at PlayUp – Holds the track record and simply finds a leg at this venue. She is a near faultless beginner from these boxes, so she should lead with ease. When you are running the time she can run and on the lure, you simply win. We think she is the best bet of the night, so your banker in your multi bets. Selections: 3-2-6-1.
The Gardens Race 8 No 7 Super Estrella $3.00 at PlayUp – What a super heat this is, four outstanding staying females featuring. Super Estrella was super here last week when narrowly defeated, and no doubt will benefit greatly from that run. We think that gives her the edge over the star Victorians Untapped (1) and Collinda Patty (4), who are both new to the track, whilst triple Group 1 winner Gypsy Wyong (6) was disappointing here last week. Selections: 7-4-1-8.
The Gardens Race 9 No 1 Collinda Lady $1.85 at PlayUp – Lightly raced Victorian who looks a real staying star of the future. Performed very well during the recent Sandown Cup series. Loves an inside draw. Should land in the first couple and then prove too strong. Veteran NSW stayer Stanley Road (2) is still racing well and a real danger despite getting on in years. They do look the only two real winning chances. Selections: 1-2-7-3.
The Gardens Race 10 No 6 Aston Velvet $5.50 at PlayUp – Very tough even heat. We are expecting Miss Ezmae (4) to lead comfortably, with Mepunga Ruby (2) also likely to lob forward. Aston Velvet was super during the recent Sandown Cup series, and she has the strength to finish over the top of them in this. Selections: 6-4-2-3.
