A really competitive Wednesday afternoon of racing stands before us, with wide open markets and big fields the theme of the day at Sandown and Warwick Farm. The meeting at Canberra is under some doubt due to the smoke, while down in Tasmania we are greeted with a super eight race card for Devonport Cup Day, the feature coming up in race seven. Down below are PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby’s five best bets for the day, with three of them being staying races, and the other two over the shorter trips. Good luck!
Sandown R2 #11 Rutherford $4.80 at PlayUp – Last start first up this colt ran a very credible 4th at double figures. That was in a BM70 at Flemington, comes here with the race fitness from that run and a drop in grade. Will definitely get back from barrier 10, seems to be enough speed engaged here that it should be able to run on from the rear and be finishing right on the money at the end.
Sandown R4 #6 Miss Five Hundred $5 at PlayUp – Complete forgive last start at The Valley when did not handle the tight turning circuit or the tempo of the race. Two runs back was a stylish winner at Sundown over this distance. Back on the bigger track will suit, the drier the track the better also.
Sandown R7 #2 Grand Crown $4.60 at PlayUp – Comes here third up after a promising win first up and a very sound effort last start in equal grade at Flemington. Has three wins and a placing from six attempts at this distance, and the 2kg claim for Michael Poy brings this horse down to a very competitive weight.
Warwick Farm R4 #4 Heart Of The Oak $3.80 at PlayUp – Talented horse resuming here for the Gerald Ryan stable, two wins at the back end of last prepare very sound. Has been primed for this run off the back of two trial wins, the first of which was won over a good horse in Covert Ops. Should push across from the wide draw and settle handy to the speed, and be hard to get past.
Devonport Cup R7 #9 Newhart $4.60 at PlayUp – This horse was unlucky not to beat the favourite last start over the 1650m, finds an extra 200m here which is a positive, fourth up into the campaign should be at peak fitness, and loves racing at this track with three wins and three placing’s from seven attempts. Thought the odds on offer allowed for a solid bet here.
