Greyhound enthusiasts are in for a fantastic evening of greyhound racing tonight with the running of the Group 1 Perth Cup (520m) and the Group 1 Galaxy (715m) finals at Cannington in West Australia, plus the Greyhound Racing New South Wales Country Classic (605m) final at Dubbo, with all three races looking to be extremely evenly contested affairs. Yes, the focus will be on the main races scheduled at both venues, but the support races are also of the highest standards, and will provide some wonderful opportunities for the punters.
Our followers should have enjoyed a very successful evening on Thursday as three of our five selections were successful, and at nice odds also. Hopefully we can continue in this vein tonight. Our aim is not just to provide our followers with our selections by way of just a race and number, but to give them some insight into our reasoning for selecting that greyhound. Analysing how a race will be run is so important in our overall process, we get it right many times but sometimes things do not always go to plan, but that is racing.
Aside from the wonderful meetings scheduled tonight for Cannington and Dubbo, we also have racing at Ipswich, Wentworth Park, The Meadows, Shepparton and The Gardens. The clash of the sprinting queen, She’s A Pearl, with the Queensland star, Hello Mike, at Wentworth Park in race 6, looks to the highlight of racing at these venues, a what a clash it promises to be. She’s A Pearl showed last start by winning the Group 3 Temora Cup (457m) in tack record time that she is well on track to defend her Golden Easter Egg title, whilst Hello Mike was stunning in recently winning the Group 1 Gold Bullion (520m) at Albion Park. We think the queen can salute but it will be no walk in the park.
Dubbo Country Classic Final Race 8 No 2 Tania Keeping $4.40 at PlayUp – The start of the race will be the key to this race, as the three fancied runners are drawn 1, 2 and 3. Tania Keeping came from box 4 last week and was held up early before finding the lead down the back and powering away late. We think she can begin well enough to lead the one dog out, and hopefully lead the three also, or sit right behind it early. By settling in the leading two, we think she can prove too strong from there. Don’t under estimate the one and three dogs. Great race. Selections: 2-3-1-7.
Cannington The Galaxy Race 6 No 1 Stagger Out Lee $4.20 at PlayUp – Dual Group 1 winner who was ultra impressive winning her heat here last week in fast time. She has been beginning much better of late than earlier in her career, and we think she can take real advantage of her rails draw tonight and be in the leading three dogs throughout. Her strength late is outstanding. Main danger, Ariarne Bale (5), is racing super but is poorly drawn and will get back, but also will charge late. Couch Surfer (4) is a risk from the draw. Selections: 1-5-7-4.
Cannington Perth Cup Race 7 No 3 Electrified $2.70 at PlayUp – Raced very well in Melbourne during the Australian Cup series recently, so has the class to win a race like this. Outstanding in his heat last week, leading throughout from this same box. Can repeat that run. Fastest heat has drawn box one, but we don’t believe he is ideally suited from that draw, but he is talented and strong. Momentum (4) will run a race at big odds, can follow our selection early. Selections: 3-4-1-2.
Wentworth Park Race 5 No 2 Rockstar Apollo $3.70 at PlayUp – Has been a little disappointing at his last three starts, but he has had a freshen up and is back to his favourite venue tonight. Capable of running fast times when given a clear run. Can find the lead from his nice inside draw, and once in front he will take a power of beating.
The Meadows Race 5 No 1 Motive $2.70 at PlayUp – Member of the strong Thompson kennel who has had two runs back from a break and looks ready to win. Begins well and has the speed to hold the lead against this field. Once in front he will take a power of beating as he looks capable of running some slick tunes. Looks the best bet of the night for us.
Shepparton Race 8 No 8 Winnindoo Wendy $4.80 at PlayUp – Racing in great heart of late. Strong efforts at her latest two starts, running home well for placings. Well drawn here as she scouts wide in her races. Will race near to the lead throughout. Nice each way odds on offer. Genuine winning chance.
