Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst.
Geelong R4 #12 Matron Bullwinkel $4.60 at PlayUp – Keen to see the return of this Maher and Eustace horse, who I had a solid opinion of during the back end of its 3yo campaign in the Autumn. While it may not have made it to Group level in the end as I envisaged, it has been spelled and resumes here looking like a furnished 4yo mare. Three quiet jump outs leading in, and staying horses usually run well fresh. Gets a leading rider booked and looks very well suited to this BM64 grade.
Geelong R5 #7 Abaddon $19.00 at PlayUp – Thought this horse was way over the odds in a competitive race, but based on his last start run at The Valley he looks in with a great chance. He was super unlucky on that occasion, settling rearwards on a leader bias night and making up great ground late on the inside of horses. What we saw to the eye was matched on the clock, with some fast closing splits. Comes here third up into the prep, and is one from one undefeated previously at this stage. Maps well from the barrier too, a definite each way play.
Geelong R10 #2 Denero $12.00 at PlayUp – Was very impressed with the style of win from this Huglin horse last start, coming from last at The Valley on a night where it was imperative to be on speed as nothing was running on. It was an amazing defiance of the clear bias, and the sectionals home to match were very strong. Third up here, and should be even able to improve off that last start effort as well. The booking of D Lane is a positive sign the horse is here to run well again, and with the racing pattern I have no concerns about the midfield draw.
Warwick Farm R1 #6 Golden Age $2.25 at PlayUp – Very promising debut run should lead to a second up victory for this Hawkes’ team horse, who as mentioned impressed when finishing fourth at Rosehill. He arguably finds a weaker race here in midweek grade, and off the back of extremely impressive trials leading into his debut he should be able to go a few better. Up to 1400m looks a natural positive progression, maps well from the alley and can be too good here. Worth noting that he is exceptionally bred, by I Am Invincible out of First Seal, who was the last horse to beat the wonder mare Winx.
Warwick Farm R3 #1 Robusto $8.00 at PlayUp – Easily the most experienced horse in this race, Robusto faces a very big drop in grade after running behind The Poacher at Rosehill in a Saturday BM72 last start. The Waller team have always had an opinion of this horse, stretching back to his 2yo days when once firmly in the market for the Golden Slipper. Second up now and out to 1400m will suit, and he looks to map well from the low draw as well.
