Massive day of racing all across the country, with the running of the G1 Caulfield Cup from Melbourne of course being one of the pinnacles of the Spring carnival. In Sydney, it’s another edition of the worlds richest race on turf, and each year the field becomes more exciting. Check out the PlayUp form analyst tips below.
Caulfield R2 #11 Cap De Joie $2.20 at PlayUp – Keen to be with this Nick Ryan runner who is a proven heavy track performer, and coming off an excellent start to his campaign. She won her first two on the bounce in outstanding style, especially her win two starts ago at Bendigo on a heavy 8. She recorded some outstanding sectionals on that occasion to score effortlessly, and then was far from disgraced at Sandown last start. Looking to peak here, she looks perfectly drawn out wide to find the better going, and has cleary heavy track stats edge over her rivals.
Caulfield R9 (G1 Caulfield Cup) #3 Knights Order $10.00 at PlayUp – This is shaping up to be a mammoth staying test, with the testing heavy 10 conditions sure to see a lot of these horses out over the famous 2400m. The Waterhouse/Bott trained Knights Order looks good each way value for mine, a proven heavy track lover who has a 50% strike rate over this distance, and will be right up on speed with every chance. He got overrun by the favourite Smoking’ Romans last time out, but with the very wet conditions today I could see him turning the tables. He will roll forward from the wide draw, and be in this for a very long way.
Caulfield R10 #5 Bandersnatch $5.50 at PlayUp – Sticking with the NSW galloper in Bandersnatch here in the last, who I though returned to racing very well last start. He spotted them a few lengths in running that day at Sandown, and was very strong late including past the post over the 1300m. The winner of that race, I Wish I Win, has since SP’d as favourite in a G1 Toorak Hcp which seriously franks the form line. A two time winner when second up, he handles wet going and looks wonderfully placed to win again.
Randwick R7 (The Everest) #1 Nature Strip $2.00 at PlayUp – How can we go past the defending champ in this year’s edition of the worlds richest race on turf. He has been simply exceptional since winning this last year, recording two subsequent G1 wins in Australia and of course winning the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in dominant fashion. He won easily in the G2 The Shorts over key rivals, and actually looks very well placed from the wide draw. He can jump and land outside the lead, or cross and lead if no one wants to take it up. Handles any surface, and James McDonald is in outstanding fashion.
Randwick R8 #1 Mr Mozart $3.80 at PlayUp – Could be simply too good for this field Mr Mozart, coming off a very close G2 placing in the Theo Marks last time. That was first up, and he was beaten under half a length there over 1300m. Second up and stopping much fitter, and gets on to his preferred heavy surface where he is two from two undefeated by a combined margin of over 2L. From barrier one he will need a touch of luck, but I think that’s why we are getting such a generous price about him.
