We are not called the “Lucky Country” for no reason, wall to wall racing of the highest quality in all three codes seems to be endless at the moment. Despite the majority of the focus seemingly pointed towards the gallops, greyhound racing should not be forgotten. After some outstanding racing in recent times in New South Wales and South Australia, the attention has now turned to Victoria who will be hosting group racing from right through until Christmas.
The Melbourne Cup has traditionally been the major race in Victoria for generations and the lead in to the 2022 Melbourne Cup (515m) kicks off tonight at Sandown Park with three Preludes of the event, with more to follow in the coming weeks leading into the Cup heats that will be contested on 19 November. The quality of greyhounds that will be contesting the preludes tonight is exceptional with a number of up and coming youngsters taking on some of the more established, proven Victorian greyhounds. It will be interesting to see if the likes of Deadly Class (13 career starts), Baby Jaycee (12), and Hector Frawley (10), can stand up under the intense pressure expected tonight. We do think we have identified a couple of nice winners on the program for our followers. Let us not forget tomorrow night, when the 2022 Bendigo Cup (425m) will be run, with a real field of speedsters making their way into the final via winning a heat last week. We will have a preview and selection tomorrow for our followers.
Now let us get down to the real business of identifying some winners for our followers, and we think there are a couple of real stand outs tonight that can help continue building the bank of all followers.
Albion Park Race 1 No 3 Dolly Dutton $1.85 at PlayUp – Looked a star of the future winning heat and final of a recent maiden series at Ipswich in flying times. Superbly bred youngster who has the world at her feet. Does want to get to the rails at box rise but she is all class and should have little trouble completing the hat trick here. Keep following her from here on also.
Sandown Park Race 5 No 2 Amron Dan $6.00 at PlayUp – Taking on the big boys here for the first time but he has the talent to be very competitive. With a slow beginner on his immediate inside, we feel he can land in the top 3 in the run to the first turn, and if that occurs he is a huge chance. Very nice odds, so back on an each way basis.
Sandown Park 7 No 3 Paddy Wants Pats $2.35 at PlayUp – We will follow up again this week on Paddy after he went down last week by the narrowest of margins when we were on him. Has excellent speed and excels racing at this venue. Will feature heavily in all the major races between now and the New Year. We expect him to find the lead early and stay there tonight. Yes.
Dapto Race 7 No 7 Punter’s Bandit $1.75 at PlayUp – Her performances of late at Wentworth Park have been outstanding, and have including fast final sections giving every indication she will make a top stayer. Steps to the 600 metre trip tonight and it should suit ideally. Yea she is short in the market but she will win. Make her your banker in all your multi bets tonight. Star of the future.
Albion Park Race 8 No 4 Shipwreck $5.50 at PlayUp – Let us down bay last week when he finished down the track after being knocked from pillar to post. Forget he went around. He is too good of a dog to let him go around tonight at the odds on offer. Massive motor. Yes he will need some luck but he is a huge chance at nice each way odds.
Angle Park Race 10 No 8 Run Like Jess $3.00 at PlayUp – Veteran galloper who is still racing with great zest. Excellent run here last week when a fast finishing third in a stronger event, which followed a nice win at Murray Bridge over the 530m trip. Small field will be to his advantage from the wide draw. Rails well and should give us an excellent finish to the night.
