Wow She’s Fast lived right up to her name on Thursday evening at Sandown Park, recording the fastest time of the eight G2 Launching Pad (515m) heats when winning by almost six lengths in a flying 29.147. Despite not stepping as quickly as we have seen in the past, she drove hard in the run to the first turn and found the front, then raced right away and giving nothing else a chance. Her time was clearly the fastest of the heats, the next fastest being 29.395, recorded by the Andrea Dailly trained Dusty Bourbski in winning heat six at big odds. Four semi-finals of the Launching Pad series will be run on Thursday at Sandown Park, and it remains difficult to see how any greyhound is going to able to match it with Wow She’s Fast.
Last night at Ballarat, heats of the G2 Ballarat Cup were run and again, as was the case in the recent G2 Shepparton Cup heats, it was the lightly raced son of Beast Unleashed, Mr. Audacious, who stole the limelight with his stunning two and a half-length heat win over Rotten Ronnie in a flying 24.794, less than two lengths off the track record. When you consider the class of the other heat winners, Ferdinand Boy, Hennessy, Compliance, Substantial and Do It, and none of them were able to break the 25 second barrier, it provides confirmation of the ability of Mr. Audacious. And he was having just his seventh race start last night. What a talent and we look forward to seeing how he performs in the final on Friday night.
Tonight, at Wentworth Park, four hotly contested semi-finals of the G1 Golden Easter Egg (520m) will be run, with the majority of focus being on the fourth heat, when the flying She’s A Pearl looks an absolute special. Clearly the fastest of the eight winners last Saturday when she ran a blistering 29.47, it will be all eyes on the clock again tonight when she runs. Supporting the running of the heats of the Easter Egg, will be two heats of the G1 Association Cup (720m) where the newest staying sensation, Zipping Kansas, will be having just his second Wentworth Park staying run, having gone an amazing 41.57 on debut. What a night it will be watching these two super stars perform on centre stage. Now let us try to provide punters with our thoughts on the semi-finals and heats of the two group ones.
Wentworth Park Race 3 No 6 Zipping Kansas $1.35 at PlayUp – He has recorded two amazing performances at his only two 700 metre starts, both here and at Sandown Park. He then proceeded to smash the 590m record at Bulli by almost half a second last start. He is a superstar. Yes. Selections: 6-2-4-7.
Wentworth Park Race 4 No 4 Gypsy Wyong $3.10 at PlayUp – Star Victorian chaser who has been successful in three Group One races already in her short career. Always races near the lead and we think can prove too strong late for the favourite Super Estrella, in what looks like being a great race. Selections: 4-6-8-1.
Wentworth Park Race 5 No 1 Zara’s Ivan $9.00 at PlayUp – Super run in heat when third to Fantastic Raven after the blowing the start, copping an early check and then being forced wide at the first bend. Drawn to follow the flying Idolise into the back tonight and then should prove too strong in the run home. Very nice each way odds. Selections: 1-3-5-4.
Wentworth Park Race 6 No 7 Zipping Kyrgios $7.00 at PlayUp – Looked a little flat in his heat last week after coming off a middle distance campaign. Will be much fresher tonight and look for an improved effort. Will be storming home. Each way odds again. Selections: 7-8-1-2.
Wentworth Park Race 7 No 2 Wow $3.10 at PlayUp – Approaching four years of age but still racing with much zest. Nice run in the heat and can go one better tonight. Should follow the red into the back. Watch for Equaliser finishing hard late. Selection: 2-6-1-4.
Wentworth Park Race 8 No 2 She’s A Pearl $1.30 at PlayUp – She is simply a star, a near faultless beginner and a great chaser. She simply leads and wins here, so it will be all eyes on the clock. Yes. Selections: 2-1-3-4.
