Racing Tips: 12th March

Huge G1 day of racing rolls around again, with black type features from both Flemington and Rosehill. The G1 Newmarket down the straight looks to be one of the best sprint races of the year, with a cracking field assembled to do battle. Check out the PlayUp selections below.

Flemington

R1 #11 She’s Pretty Rich $18.00 at PlayUp
Having a small speck at this horse in the opener on G1 Newmarket day, who looks to be good value. This 2yo daughter of Written Tycoon was pretty luckless on debut, running fourth in the G3 Ottawa here over 1000m. She looked to handle the straight with aplomb, but ran into big dead ends over the line with a lot to offer. Resumes from a spell, and looks to have come on nicely during her time off. 1200m down the Flemington straight should be no issue, she’s drawn nicely and gets the booking of B Allen.

R5 #1 Yearning $4.60 at PlayUp
A G1 1000 Guineas winner in the Spring, Yearning looks to have returned for an Autumn assault in fine style. She ran third in the G2 Armanasco last start when resuming, and did not have the best of luck either. Got back in the field behind a slow tempo and a leader bias, she flew home in the fastest last 600m, 400m, and 200m splits of the race in a very good effort. Second up now, and is a proven winner at this stage of the prep. She was beaten under a length at this track and distance in a G2 race last prep, and from a soft draw looks a very good bet.

R8 #1 Junipal $13.00 at PlayUp
Thought this Maher/Eustace runner looked great value in the G3 Shaftesbury Avenue Hcp, coming off a luckless first up run. He ran 6th in a listed event here over 1400m, settling in a very awkward position back and on the fence. He was forced to make runs to the inside of horses in the straight, and in restricted room still managed to run the seventh fastest last 200m sectional of the entire day. A previous second up winner, who has placed three times from five attempts at the 1400m. With even luck from a more suitable draw here this afternoon, he should be right in the finish.

Rosehill

R2 #6 Miss Faberge $9.50 at PlayUp
One more chance for this J Sargent runner, who trialled extremely well leading into her first prep. She was luckless on debut behind Mumbai Jewel, and then ran very well behind Fireburn in the G2 Sweet Embrace last start. Third up, drawn very well down low, and clearly can handle a wet track as proven by last start on that bottomless heavy 10 at Randwick. With even luck, I can see her making sharp improvement and being in the finish.

R8 #9 Atishu $26.00 at PlayUp
Market has completely missed this horse, who was a $3.80 second favourite last start when resuming in G3 level and stayed in the gates. What was very interesting, is the way in which she worked through the line once the race was over, under a huge hold. She trucked through it, clearly handling the wet track and looked very visually impressive. Second up here, and if she manages to jump this time which she should, she really should be towards the top end of the market.
