Racing Tips: 19th February

Another huge Group One day of racing, with the running of the Lightning Stakes at Flemington down the straight. A cracking field has assembled to do battle, and it’s complemented by Group level racing all across the country.

Take a look at the selections from our PlayUp form analyst below.

Flemington

R3 #7 Groovy Kinda Love $6.50 at PlayUp
Was very good first up at Caulfield after missing the kick and coming from near last to finish only 2.5L off the winner. She was also held up for about the last 100m of the race in between horses, so it was a complete forgive run all round. Second up now with a dynamite record of three wins from two starts when racing at this stage of the prep, and gets up to the mile as well. She has three wins from six attempts over 1600m, and two minor placings as well so she is rarely far away. Flemington will suit her pattern, and the booking of Prebble is a strong push.

R6 #11 Pascero $6.00 at PlayUp
Have really been taken by this undefeated Pierro colt, and he profiles as a serious G1 Australian Guineas chance. The key lead up to that feature is this race, the G3 CS Hayes. His last start Sandown win was very good, settling up on speed near a slow tempo and quickly putting the field away before going back under a hold over the line. His last 600m sectional was 7L quicker than standard, and sticking to 1400m here from a very good draw looks positive.

R9 #6 Can’t Be Done $8.50 at PlayUp
This horse is way over the odds here in the last, and i’m very keen on having a good each way play on him. Although he ran 7th first up, the run was far superior to what it reads on paper. He ended up last in running after getting squeezed out at the start, and on a day where there was a big leader bias it was always going to be impossible for him to win. He recorded last 600m and 400m figures that were 8L quicker than standard time and flew through the line. Second up with a dynamite record of 5:2-2-0, drawn very well in barrier four and gets J Kah on as well.

Rosehill

R5 #6 Able Willie $3.10 at PlayUp
Very keen on the lightly raced Waller horse to win here over the 1100m. He was mightily unlucky at Canterbury when resuming, finding trouble on the bend and in the straight to fly home and only just miss. Second up here, he is already placed at Listed level and finds a very winnable race. I think he can go on to contest some nice black type races this Autumn, and a win here would be a great launching pad. Bowman booked to do the steering again is a good push.
