Great day of racing around the country, with black type features from Randwick, Caulfield and Pinjarra in the west.
Our PlayUp form analyst has identified five key bets from Melbourne and Sydney that should see you through a Saturday on the punt. Check them out below.
Caulfield
R4 #4 Renosu $2.15 at PlayUp
Keen on the Godolphin 2yo here, who has the benefit of some strong race experience and fitness on his side coming up against some debutants. His two runs in his career have been very strong, including a 2nd behind Brereton in a G3, and a flashing lights debutant run here at Caulfield. His data has been very good, and a recent Flemington jump out win tells us he hasn’t missed a beat in the time off. Drawn very well here and D Oliver taking the ride is a strong push.
R6 #5 Vespertine $6.0 at PlayUp
Racing in outstanding form this prep and there is no reason it shouldn’t continue here. Was very good first up running 2nd and recording some huge figures inside the last 400m and 200m, including a 3rd fastest last 200m split of the entire day. She then came out and put them away nicely last start second up, and now returns to Caulfield again and steps out to 1400m. She has a great record at this track and distance, and will really appreciate the 2kg claim for M Cartwright. The wide draw is no concern, she will settle rearwards anyway.
R8 #7 Evening Glory $5.50 at PlayUp
Second up here, and put the writing on the wall last start fresh with a very strong placing behind Scorched Earth. His late sectionals rated equally with the winner, but it was more impressive as he was forced to go 3L quicker than the winner to the 600m mark. Great record second up, and comes up in distance and down in class which looks to be a winning formula for this horse. With any luck from a touch of an awkward barrier, he should be too good for these.
Randwick
R3 #9 French Emperor $3.20 at PlayUp
No secret that this horse is clearly on the trajectory of an ATC Derby at the end of this prep, and managed to kick the campaign off in fine style with a dominant first up win. He put the field away effortlessly by 2L at Kembla, and now makes the step out to the mile second up, where he is undefeated one from one. The fact he is only carrying 55kg here in a midway race for a horse with G1 targets looks an absolute steal, and Chad Schofield should give him a peach from the wide barrier.
R9 #13 Silent Impact $2.45 at PlayUp
Very keen on this Waterhouse/Bott runner to make it two from two this prep, after he recorded a good win at Randwick first up. He comes into this race perfectly drawn in barrier two and only carrying 55kg with the rise in grade. But he is unbeaten second up, and is three from three unbeaten on wet tracks. He will find a track perfectly to his liking with the sting out of the ground, and finds a very winnable BM78 with a number of horses either resuming or already meeting their peak.
