Greyhound Tips: 1st January

Happy New Year to all our followers and we hope that 2022 is kind to you all and may you back plenty of winners.

Thursday evening at Albion Park we witnessed the running of four heats of the Group 2 Golden Sands over the 600-metre trip, highlighted by the Ray Smith trained NSW visitor Jungle Deuce recording the third fastest ever 600m winning time when winning in a slashing 34.52. Having run 28.93 at Dubbo at his previous start, Jungle Deuce is racing with supreme confidence at the moment and after drawing favourably in box 2 in the final, it would appear that he will start a very short priced favourite in the $75,000 to the winner final next Thursday night. The other heat winners were Line Of Quality (NSW) in 34.84, We The People (WA) 35.00, and Aston Ulysses (Vic) 34.92, but they will all have their work cut out for them next week chasing Jungle Deuce.

The final of the Group 2 Gosford Cup will be conducted on Tuesday, with the Danielle Matic trained Wow appearing to be right on track to defend his title after recording a slashing heat win last week in a very fast 29.14. Jumping straight to the front from box four, Wow never looked in danger and he is one greyhound who excels from middle box draws, so drawing box five in the final would be of little concern to his connections. His main dangers will come from Victorian visitor Aston Shine, who has drawn the coveted red box, and the ever-consistent John Finn trained Zipping Kyrgios who was sensational in his heat recording 29.16 but has drawn poorly in the final in box seven. A cheque of $40,000 will await the winning connections on Tuesday.

Tonight, at The Meadows, the first Group 1 of 2022 will be run, the Silver Chief over the 525-metre journey. Eight eagerly contested heats were run ten days ago, with the Andrea Dailly trained Zippy Tesla, displaying his love for an inside draw, recording a very fast 29.77 in winning his heat comfortably. Only a week earlier from the same rails draw, when resuming from an eight-week break, he had clocked 29.60, so he clearly is a very fast animal. He has drawn box three in the final and he should be able to get a clear run from that alley and hold off all challengers. Main danger appears to be Weblec Blazer, who we believe to be the fastest dog in the race but often brings about his own undoing by his poor box manners. From the four box, tonight he should be able to get a nice cart into the race. $100,000 awaits the winning connections.

Wentworth Park Race 1 No 6 Five Second Rule $3.50 at PlayUp
Very well drawn in this event, as the dog in box five crashes to the rails and should give our selection plenty of room early. Very talented and his form since resuming, from a four-month break, has been strong with two wins and three close seconds. Despite never tasting success in fifteen previous starts at this track and distance, this looks a very nice race for him.

The Meadows Race 2 No 2 Boston Garden $2.45 at PlayUp
Outstanding run in a heat of the Silver Chief last week when he chased home Titan Blazer in fast time. That was from box 5, and this dog loves the rails so his draw tonight is much more to his liking. He Looks the best bet of the night to us, so make him your banker in all your multi bets tonight.

Wentworth Park Race 7 No 1 Summer Key $4.20 at PlayUp
Very nice winner here last start from the awkward six box, when she railed well at the first corner to score well. Will appreciate the inside draw here and has the speed to lead throughout to win again.

The Meadows Race 5 No 7 Jepara $4.00 at PlayUp
Class sprinter stepping up to the middle distance for the first time. Loves racing at The Meadows where he has won seven times in the past. Has the speed to lead this field and will take some running down once he finds the lead.

Warrnambool Race 12 No 2 Zambora Richie $4.40 at PlayUp
Had zero luck in recent starts. Love this track and is well drawn. Small field is also a bonus. This looks his race.
