THE build-up has been massive in regard to the meeting at Wentworth Park tonight where the finals of three long standing group races will be contested.
All three finals, the Group 2 Sydney Cup, the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal, and the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic, are all outstanding fields and in our mind, very even fields. And to make the night even more enjoyable, down in Victoria at Bendigo we have the final of the Group 2 Bendigo Cup where we have drawn together what may well be the best country cups field we have ever seen.
We will dissect each of these finals in an attempt to provide punters with the winners, plus we will add a couple of other specials from across the country.
Peter Mosman Opal – Wentworth Park Race 5 No 1 She’s Salacious $2.00 at PlayUp
Very consistent beginner and loves the rails. She has the speed to hold out her main danger (2) in the run to the first corner. Look for both the 7 & 8 to be carving over towards the rails also which will crowd things up for the 2 allowing She’s Salacious to be off and gone. Selections: 1-8-2-7.
Vic Peters Classic – Wentworth Park Race 6 No 6 Bandit Ned $2.35 at PlayUp
You don’t win 14 of 17 race starts if you are not consistent, and this boy is the real deal. He has the speed to be in the first three around the first bend, with 2 & 3 expected to be near the lead. The 8 is a good beginner but he will not get across our selection. Expect Bandit Ned to make his move coming off the back and prove too strong in the run to the line. Zipping Kansas will be making ground late. Selections: 6-5-3-2.
Sydney Cup – Wentworth Park Race 7 No 2 Line Of Quality $12.00 at PlayUp
Great each way odds which we think are overs. He will need some luck in the run as he does get back. Expect 4, 8 & 9 to be the leaders with a lap to go, and then it will be a battle to see if the two back markers, Line Of Quality and the favourite Stanley Road can pick them up. From the inside draw, and at the price we really fancy our selection to figure prominently in the finish. Selections: 2-8-4-5.
Bendigo Cup – Bendigo Race 7 No 7 Typhoon Sammy $2.10 at PlayUp
Broke track record in his heat with pure speed however tonight we are expecting the 5, Ferdinand Boy, to lead and this should allow Typhoon Sammy to sit on him and prove too strong at the finish. The other dog to watch is the red, he is a huge danger if he has the speed to hold a forward position in a drive to the first bend. Great field. Selections: 7-5-1-8.
Horsham Race 4 No 6 Kinlock Blazer $3.10 at PlayUp
Impressive winner at this track two starts back in good time. Despite being a little disappointing at Warrnambool last outing, we think he performs better at Horsham. Field is not over strong so gets his chance.
Horsham Race 7 No 6 Oriental Amber $2.90 at PlayUp
An absolute star short course performer right across all Victorian tracks. A winner of six races at this track and distance with a flying 22.64 as her fastest time. Outstanding run last week in a heat of the Bendigo Cup and this field has nowhere near the depth of that race. She is our best bet of the night anywhere and she is your banker for all your multi bets.
Dubbo Race 8 No 1 Fusion Cracker $3.20 at PlayUp
Drawn to lead and win in this field. Very good winner at this track and from this box in nice time last outing. Should be able to repeat that effort here.
Cannington Race 4 No 8 Vice Grip $5.00 at PlayUp
Will be giving the likely leader Destruction a start at the half way mark but we are banking on his strength to get him over the top of the leader in the straight. Likes this track and distance. Each way all day.
