Three group finals were contested last night, in three different states, and all produced outstanding performances. Such exciting times lie ahead, over the next three months especially, in the greyhound industry. At Angle Park, it was the Victorian trained Do It, taking out the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in outstanding fashion, defeating his more fancied kennel and litter mate Mr Fix It by over three lengths in the second fastest time recorded on the new track, that being 30.07. This victory provided trainer Jeff Britton with his second Adelaide Cup victory having previously been successful back in 2011 with Mepunga Nicky. Zipping Kyrgios confirmed his standing as one of the top sprinters in New South Wales with a storming victory in the Group 2 Black Top run at The Gardens, overcoming a middle draw in doing so. Trained by the veteran John Finn and owned by the Hallinan family, Zipping Kyrgios brought up win number 20 from his 39 starts with the victory. A wonderful chaser, who handles himself so well in a field, he will continue to be competitive in whatever he contests in the coming months. For us, he appears an ideal Melbourne Cup type greyhound.
Later on in the evening over in the West, the former Victorian chaser Destruction, now in the kennels of Krystal Shinners, was simply devastating in winning the final of Group 3 Mandurah Cup. Flying the boxes, Destruction established an eight length break by mid race and from there victory never looked in doubt. The early speed he displayed will certainly ensure he is a major player in the feature races coming up at Cannington in the months ahead. Another sensational night of racing awaits punters tonight. Heats of two Group 1 events, the Peter Mosman for females, and Vic Peters for male dogs, will be contested at Wentworth Park, featuring the best young greyhounds from across the state. Meanwhile down in Victoria at Bendigo, eight heats of the Group 2 Bendigo Cup will be run, this race being a real event for the speedsters and the series always produces a great final. Now let us see if we can steer punters into some winners, we need to after a number of disappointing runs last night left us with empty pockets.
Wentworth Park Race 5 No 1 King Power $4.80 at PlayUp – Drawn perfectly here and we think has the speed to lead. Will be greatly improved by his win at the track here last week, his first look at Wentworth Park. Nice each way odds.
Wentworth Park Race 8 No 3 Sound Of Silence $3.40 at PlayUp – Better known as a stayer but he was very good here last week when a narrowly beaten second in fast time. The empty box inside of him should provide him with enough room to land in a forward position and hopefully his strength will get him home in the final stages.
Wentworth Park Race 9 No 6 Lock Master $2.80 at PlayUp – Trained by the Million Dollar Master in Peter Lagogiane, this fellow explodes shortly after box rise. He should be able to establish a long lead down the back and despite finding the 520 metre trip a struggle, he can still run fast enough times to provide him with victory.
Bendigo Race 10 No 2 Dr Tucker $2.10 at PlayUp – Injury prone galloper but there is none faster over 400 metres when he is fit. Two runs from a spell at Healesville have been super and this track and distance is perfect for him. He is a best bet of the night and the banker for your multi bets.
