Huge day of G1 racing from both Caulfield and Randwick, so take a look at out PlayUp form analyst selections below for this massive Saturday race day.
Caulfield R3 #9 Ocean Beyond $9.00 at PlayUp – Cannot believe the little amount of luck Ocean Beyond had when resuming behind He’s A Balter here last start. Held up for almost the entirety of the straight before taking a split very late and getting home well. Convinced the horse is in great order, as the jump outs leading into this prep were very strong. Second up here, drawn to have better luck, and looks over the odds at current quote.
Caulfield R7 #4 Tailleur $3.90 at PlayUp – Third up here and back down to Melbourne for this Godolphin runner, who has been very good this prep without much luck. She was only beaten 1.5L by Fituese in the G3 Tou Show fresh, before opting to be ridden quiet last start and struggling to make up ground in the G2 Sheraco. It was the complete wrong way to ride her, and now with a solid draw third up I think they can settle handier in running. Her trial in between runs was superb at Hawkesbury, and her only other Melbourne start was a 6L demolition at The Valley last year.
Randwick R3 #7 Solar Apex $3.90 at PlayUp – Two wins from two starts this prep for Solar Apex, and there’s absolutely no reason it can’t be three in a row here. He smashed the field in a Gosford 1900m race last start, loved the way he relaxed in running and put pay to them late. Prior to that he beat Shibli by close to two lengths, and that horse has since won back to back victories. Form lines are superb, and he looks a horse that Waller may take down to Melbourne to contest some proper staying races. James McDonald sticks here for obvious reasons, and he looks perfectly placed in this benchmark race.
Randwick R6 #3 Kiku $4.80 at PlayUp – Very unlucky first up running 6th behind Ellsberg, as she got shuffled back to last on the turn and was climbing all over backsides at the top of the straight. She weaved her way through the field to finish only 2L off the winner, and her closings splits were the best of the race. Second up here, and is likely to find a much kinder position from barrier 1 today. Her second up record is very strong (3:2-1), and she is undefeated at this track and distance as well.
