A huge raceday at headquarters in Melbourne, with some big Spring previews to be decided around the Flemington circuit. Some great race also from other parts of the country, and our form analyst has found five runners which they are very keen on. Check them below.
Flemington R3 #2 He’s The Ultimate $5.00 at PlayUp – Very keen on this Moody runner with L Nolen engaged, coming off a huge win on the synthetic at Pakenham last start over 1200m. He was caught deep no cover for a portion of the race before surging on and settling outside the lead, and still managed to extend away to win by 5L eased down. The time recorded was only 1 second slower than the track record, and coming into this Flemington race third up fit looks ideal. He will roll forward and likely find a position outside the lead again, and could be hard to get past.
Flemington R6 #5 Footlights $3.90 at PlayUp – Keen on this runner in the Victoria Derby preview, coming off a very unlucky second place at Cranbourne last time out. He got back to last in the small field, and was dictated to by a slow tempo in front which made it very hard to win from his position. When making runs in the straight he kept finding trouble, but was clear inside the last 100m and flew home through the line. Expect them to settle handier here from the draw, and now third up to 1800m looks very suitable. His debut win was good, and is profiling like a serious Vic Derby contender.
Flemington R8 #2 He’s The Real Deal $2.30 at PlayUp – Think he is exactly that, coming off two wins and a minor placing so far this prep he is in outstanding form. Still can’t believe he got beat last time out at Sandown, after looking to have it all parcelled with 200m to go. Keen he bounces back to the winners stall here, can be up on speed from the low barrier and sticks to 1400m in equal grade. J Richards hopping back aboard is a big bonus, he is riding very well at the moment.
Gosford R4 #4 Quantico $2.80 at PlayUp – Scratched from a much tougher assignment last Saturday to run here, and gets the booking of J McDonald in a very easy BM78 race. A very lightly raced 5yo gelding who has shown glimpses of huge talent throughout his career, and has trialled very well leading into the first up run. He has a 50% winning strike rate fresh, and the fact J Mac trialled him as well is a huge indicator that the horse is going well, as he is a notoriously hard man to book for trials. Two time distance winner, well weighted against the quality of opposition, just wins.
Gosford R7 #4 Enfleurage $2.80 at PlayUp – Comes off a very solid effort in town behind Selburose, where she was only beaten 1.5L after sitting up on a frantic speed. The smaller field will play right into her hands here today, expect her to dictate proceedings from the front after using the inside alley to her advantage. Third up, sticks to 1100m, and drops 1kg in weight even though she is up against opposite sex here after being in a mares only race last time out.
