Spring is well and truly in the air punters, as some very exciting horses begin to return all over the country this Saturday. At Randwick, the features include the G2 Missile Stakes and Listed Rosebud Stakes, both races absolutely choc-full of talent. A big 9-race card at Flemington offers up a plethora of betting opportunities, while other main meetings include Doomben, Belmont and Murray Bridge. Take a look at the PlayUp form analyst’s selections below.
Flemington R2 #8 Star Spirit $4.40 at PlayUp – Think the price about Star Spirit is very fair, coming off a sound effort at Sandown last start where she was taking big ground off the winner in Sharp Response. She was over 5 weeks between runs into that race, and was faced with a heavy 9 which didn’t entirely suit. She flew home late and was strong through the line, indicating this 1400m trip now will really suit. Maps for another good run, lightly raced and should be able to turn the tables to make it two wins from three starts.
Flemington R3 #14 Zesty Belle $5.50 at PlayUp – Think this Denman mare finds the right race here, third up into the prep off two encouraging runs so far. Ran the fastest closing sectionals of the entire program at Caulfield first up, before getting back in an impossible winning position last start and running home soundly against the bias. To Flemington now where she has a great record down the 1100m straight, and has definitely drawn the right side of the track here in barrier 19, and will appreciate a firmer surface again.
Flemington R5 #12 Deep Speed $3.80 at PlayUp – Absolutely no reason to jump of the Deep Speed bandwagon here, coming off a very strong fresh win at Caulfield last start to bring up 100 wins for J Kah. He was forced to work very hard early to find the lead, and then was able to quicken again inside the 400m to steal a margin and win. Four weeks between runs here is a good thing off that gut-busting effort, and he is another horse who has drawn the right part of the track down the straight. Can steady a tempo in front, and make it two on the bounce in a very winnable race.
Randwick R4 #7 Re Edit $7.00 at PlayUp – Great each way bet here on the Randwick program, the resuming Re Edit for the Waller/Bowman combination. She is a proven first up performer, half a length off Skyman at Caulfield last prep over a mile, and was beaten a pimple by the Rocha Clock going back two preparations when fresh. Comes into this event off two trials, including a win over Loveplanet here who is much shorter in the market somehow. Drawn the peach barrier two, Bowman in very good form, and looks a great each way play.
Randwick R8 #3 Remarque $3.10 at PlayUp – Best bet anywhere in the country this Saturday, the highly touted G1 winner in waiting Remarque returns here in the Rosebud stakes. A very promising 2yo campaign was derailed through illness, and he returns here off two very strong trials. T Berry jumps back on, and was quoted saying that this Snitzel colt is one of the most promising horses he has been associated with. Barrier one is a slight concern, and will need a good ride for it, but this horse should be going on to win a G1 this season and can account for this field.
