Midweek racing selections from the PlayUp form expert.
Sandown R2 #1 Douceur $2.05 at PlayUp – Looks like a proper wet tracker, coming off a debut win at Ballarat over 1100m on heavy 8 conditions. Got back to last in running on that day, and let down very convincingly from that position to win. Ran the 2nd fastest last 200m split of the entire day, stamping herself as a talented filly. Spelled since had a Traralgon trial win where she looked very strong and will get wet conditions here again to suit.
Sandown R3 #12 La Croft $11.00 at PlayUp – Keen to back this mare now second up, coming off a very good 5th on the Pakenham Synthetic last start. She got back to last behind only a moderate tempo, and it made it an impossible winning position for her. She spotted the leaders 10L top of the straight and finished off in the 2nd fastest last 400 and 200m splits of the entire day to be only beaten 1L. Fitter now, and out to 1300m will really suit. Usually backing horses off a synthetic run onto a wet track is a recipe for disaster, but she has already two career runs on wet going and they have both been solid.
Sandown R7 #3 Final Man $14.00 at PlayUp – Cannot believe the price about Final Man, who comes here fifth up rock hard fit off a super effort at Sale over 1400m last start. He got back in running there behind a tempo that was very moderate mid-stages, making it hard for him to swoop and win. He flew home through the line in the 3rd fastest last 200m split of the meeting, and it was the fastest of the race itself by over 2L. He is unbeaten on heavy going, and although carries 61kg it is only 2kg above the minimum. His wet track victories have come over Alburq and November Dreaming no less, he is a deadset wet tracker.
Randwick Kensington R2 #3 Duchy Of Savoy $2.60 at PlayUp – Keen on the Melbourne runner here, who only had the one career start at Caulfield before being tipped out. He finished 5th behind the unbeaten Dosh and finished ahead of Wolves who then was beaten under 5L in a G1 Blue Diamond. His last 200m split was a lightning 10.1 seconds, which was 2.5L quicker than any other runner in that race. Resumes here off a very strong Rosehill trial over 900m, and is clearly talented and bringing in a very strong form line. Drawn well with Avdulla booked, will be on the money.
Randwick Kensington R7 #4 Gin ’n’ Bitters $6.00 at PlayUp – Very interesting to see the QLD mare down here, now under the care of Billy Healey. She is first up off a Deagon trial back in May and has been unsighted for public work since. She has an outstanding fresh record with two wins from three fresh runs, and she has drawn well here with McDonald booked to ride. 1100m suits, as will a hopefully drying track by that point of the day. Early marked support has been very strong, and where there is smoke there is also usually fire.
