Massive night of greyhound racing at The Meadows awaits us, with the running of the Group 1 Australian Cup, for sprinters, and the Group 1 Fanta Bale for stayers. Meadows Race 9 Australian Cup Final – Very even race and the dash to the first corner could well decide the winner. The early speed dogs are Utah Blues (1), Lakeview Cruiser (2), Shima Classic (3), Tommy Shelby (4), Fernando Bluey (6) and Tiggerlong Tonk (7). All these dogs can run a superfast split to the first turn, so it is almost a guessing game to find the leader, but we think that Fernando Bluey will cause issues for all dogs drawn inside him as he makes a dash for the rails. This leaves Tiggerlong Tonk with the clear run outside him and this should allow him to be either in front or sitting outside of Bluey. We feel Tiggerlong Tonk is the stronger of these two dogs, so then it will be a matter of can Tonk hold off the finish of a Tyler Durden (5) or a Christo Bale (8) who would be relying on luck around that first corner to put themselves in the race. We are selecting Tiggerlong Tonk to hold out the fast finishing Christo Bale in the drive to the line to give young trainer Correy Grenfell his first Australian Cup success. Selections: 7-8-4-2.
Meadows Race 8 Fanta Bale Super Stayers Final – West Australian star Zack Monelli (3) set the track alight last week in a heat for this event, smashing a couple of sectional records along the way. On that performance you would expect him to lead again with ease, however the dog drawn inside of him, Run Like Jess (2), does have high speed also and is well drawn close to the rails and this may cause issues for the WA star. Whilst these two speedsters, and maybe even Here’s Tears (4), are going at it up front, strong dogs like Houdini Boy (1), Sunset Bourbski (5) and Stanley Road (8) will be all attempting to find clear paths through the field. And don’t forget the SA star Sir Truculent who is racing much better this visit to the Eastern States. We are pinning our faith in Houdini Boy to be able to weave his magic and prove to strong over the concluding stages. Selections: 1-8-3-5.
Meadows Race 3 No 1 Weblec Blazer $4.60 at PlayUp – Maiden final and this fellow has been impressive in both his heat and his semi without recording a victory. Both times he has appeared to be looking to cross to the rails at box rise and therefore he does look ideally drawn in the red. We think he is the best bet of the night and your banker in multi bets.
Wentworth Park Race 4 No 7 Ava Wine $2.30 at PlayUp – Another Prelude of the Golden Easter Egg and Ava Wine returns to Wentworth Park after his unsuccessful tilt down south at the rich Rookie Rebel where he was pole axed at the first bend and never recovered. Looks well suited in the small field here and he should prove too strong for his opposition.
Meadows Race 5 No 10 Ozark Bale $7.50 at PlayUp – Reserve runner who has obtained a start from the coveted box one. Outstanding last start at Warrnambool when stopped in tracks at the first corner before powering home to go down narrowly in fast time. Lightly raced and improving each time he steps out and may turn into a very handy city performer in time. Each way value tonight.
Wentworth Park Race 7 No 2 Zambora Zipper $2.50 at PlayUp – We are banking on this dog finding the lead tonight and that will allow us to see him perform to his best. Been racing without much luck in recent starts and in slightly stronger fields. Only danger appears to the dog from box 1.
Meadows Race 12 No 2 Bees And Honey $3.70 at PlayUp – This is a nice drop in class for this dog, and he loves racing at this track. Should get a good cart into the race from this draw and allow his supporters to go home with pockets full.
