Racing Tips September 4th

Great day of racing all across the country here, with Group and Listed events in both Sydney and Melbourne to keep the punters entertained. Take a look at our PlayUp form experts analysis of Saturday race day below.

Moonee Valley R5 #3 Portland Sky $2.70 at PlayUp – G1 winner resuming here in a very suitable contest, the G2 McEwen Stakes over 1000m. He has drawn a touch wide, but should slot in easily midfield with cover off the fence, and be presented to the right part of the track in the straight. He has not led in only two career starts, and they were both very unlucky runs so I’m not prepared to say he needs to lead to win. A proven fresh winner, a winner at this track previously, and looks the class of the field over this shorter trip.

Moonee Valley R6 #7 Zouzarella $7.50 at PlayUp – Good feeling this talented filly can make it two from two to start her career, returning to the track and distance of her debut win. She beat a handy field on debut here a few weeks back, getting back in the field behind a hot tempo and rounding them up late in the piece. She looks well placed to do the exact same here, with another fast tempo predicted and her wide draw allows her to find that wider part of the track. No problems on wet going, she finished second to Invincible Caviar on a heavy 9 trial.

Moonee Valley R7 #10 Riddle Me That $11.00 at PlayUp – Going for some value in a wide open and competitive edition of the inaugural Chautauqua Stakes. Riddle Me That resumes here off the back of two very strong Mornington trials. He won the first one nicely in good time, and closed off very strongly under no pressure in the second one. He ran 2nd behind Ancestry at this track and trip when resuming last prep, and arguably should’ve gone much closer after being given an unusually quiet ride. Drawn very well here in barrier four, well weighted with only 54kg, and is proven to handle soft tracks. With any luck in running he must be considered a chance here.

Randwick R6 #12 De An Andretti $8.50 at PlayUp – Very excited to see this boom filly go around here, a half to Libertini racing in the same colours as her older sister. She has only had one career start, a monster debut win at Hawkesbury coming from off the speed to rocket home and win. Two trial wins leading into this race have been exceptional, she looks to have a huge motor and a great turn of foot. Expect her to be ridden quiet and cuddled up here from barrier two, and will just need splits to open to be winning. She is a serious talent and looks primed for bigger targets.

Randwick R10 #13 Atishu $3.30 at PlayUp – Think this NZ import can go two from two in her Aus career, off a huge 1400m win here a few weeks back in BM88 grade. Up in grade and distance, but it looks a very suitable assignment and the 1500m trip would suit even more you’d think now second up. This doesn’t look a harder assignment here today with the horses on paper, and expect her to get back again from wide and be storming home with McEvoy again.
