Midweek racing from Bendigo and Kensington, with our PlayUp form analyst finding five good things across the grounds. Check out their thoughts below.
Bendigo R1 #11 Spirit Of Pepin $9.00 at PlayUp – Was hard not to be impressed bu the debut run of this Magnus gelding, who started near triple figures on the SP but defied those odds to run 2nd behind a very smart one in Fire. He got back to near last off a strong speed, and still managed to work home in the fastest last 200m split of the entire day. It was an impressive debut, and he gets a very similar map again here from the wide draw. Expect him to be fitter and improved for the first run, and can give this a big shake.
Bendigo R6 #11 Rinnova $4.00 at PlayUp – Very good last time at Cranbourne second up, matching it with Morning Melody until the last few strides. Prior to that when fresh was a very good Geelong winner, and her debut before a spell at Pakenham beating Hinto Blue rated higher than the BM70 races on that program. Convinced she’s a very smart mare from a leading stable that will graduate into higher company, so from the perfect draw and a good surface, she can take care of this BM64 grade now third up and ready to peak.
Bendigo R8 #6 Bluestone Lane $5.00 at PlayUp – Was taken with the second up effort of this runner, who was immediately snagged back to last and flew through horses late at Sandown. It was a strangely quiet ride which didn’t give the horse much of a hope, as the tempo in front was slow and overall race shape therefore was against him. He still ran the fastest last 200m split of the race, and 8th fastest of the whole day, to finish near enough to the winners. Third up now, may be able to swoop out wider with room, and does drop weight in equal grade.
Randwick Kensington R1 #9 Otelo $6.50 at PlayUp – Going with a very fit runner here, coming into this fourth up off some consistent efforts to date. What strikes me about Otelo is that he will be extremely fit and forward for this assignment, and coming out now to 1400m as well can suit. He has trialled well on a heavy deck before, and after consistent rain on Tuesday in town we may be edging towards a wetter surface on race day. He even finished 0.3L off Port Louis on this track over 1100m on a heavy 8 last prep, and that horse started favourite in a G1 in Brisbane. Feel as though he has been overlooked by the market, each way bet.
Randwick Kensington R5 #6 Promise Of Success $2.70 at PlayUp – Has done exactly that since moving out to Aus, winning first up last prep at Warwick Farm on a heavy deck and running very well in two subsequent starts thereon, including a placing any the track and distance. He is clearly a horse who fires fresh, and can handle wet going here. H Bowman stepping back aboard is a tick, and the wide draw will allow him to be ridden quiet, and build momentum through the line to (hopefully) win, as is often a winning gameplay on this Kenso track.
