Racing Tips October 16th

ONE of the feature Saturdays of the entire Spring carnival awaits, with the running of The Everest at Randwick, and the Caulfield Cup in Melbourne.

Huge fields and outstanding betting opportunities within both meetings, as well as racing from all other parts of Australia means there are plenty of chances to fill the account! Check out the PlayUp form analyst’s thoughts below.

Randwick:

R4 #1 Decent Raine $5.50 at PlayUpHave been a fan of this horse for a while, and love the team have brought her to Sydney for a crack at some black type, in this Listed event over 1400m. She is fifth up into her prep, so will be hitting this race at peak fitness and ready to improve off a 3rd in the G3 Champagne Stakes at The Valley last time out. She flies on heavy going, winning an Echuca maiden by 5L on a heavy 10, and has drawn well for a leading jockey.

R5 (The Kosciuszko) #14 Sunrise Ruby $10.00 at PlayUpLooks a great each way option here in the country horses feature of the afternoon, having already won three from four so far this prep. What strikes me about this horse is that she comes into this race down on 53kg, is prepared by a leading country trainer, has drawn well, gets a leading jockey, and has unbelievable heavy track stats. On paper it all looks to add up, and I thought she would be in single figures.

R7 (The Everest) #4 Gytrash $7.00 at PlayUpSeems the forgotten runner of the feature race here, as everyone is keen to talk about Classique Legend or Nature Strip, but Gytrash deserves a huge chance here. Drawn one, and will be stalking the speed right in behind the leaders with good cover throughout. He is one from one on heavy going, and has won big races in Melbourne on soft tracks too. They are going to come off the fence in the straight, which gives him the saloon passage to come through, and he will be right there at the end.

Caulfield:

R4 #10 Kapalua Sunset $2.10 at PlayUpLooks the real deal this 3yo filly, coming off a 7L maiden win at Kyneton over 1900m to stamp herself as a favourite for the G1 Oaks later in November. Although her last start win doesn’t sound too special on paper, she ran the 2nd fastest 400-200m split of the entire day when improving her position, and was already 5L clear when the other horses straightened. She will see the trip, is drawn well, and is very likely to handle the wet conditions.

R9 (Caulfield Cup) #12 Montefilia $15.00 at PlayUpVery happy to play each way on this D Payne mare, coming off a win in the G1 Metropolitan in Sydney last start. She beat a star studded field there, and sticks to the same distance now coming to Melbourne to contest this feature. Her ratings clearly have her alongside the top in the market, and with only 52kg and mapping to find a nice spot midfield wide but with cover, she must be a leading chance. She runs very well on wet going, and is ready to peak now fourth up.
