Sandown Hillside
R3 #4 Matron Bullwinkel $4.40 at PlayUp
Very keen on this horse as a future Australian Oaks prospect, and I think she can record her second career victory here. Was very good winning on debut at Cranbourne, and then flashed through the line here on the Lakeside circuit behind Green Belt last start. She ran 2L quicker than the class average, and it was the fastest last 200m of the race by over 2L as well. Fitter here third up, sticking to a mile is a slight query, but she looks smart and can be winning from a soft draw.
R4 #6 Inverell $2.90 at PlayUp
Keen to see the return of this OTI runner, who had massive wraps on it last prep and raced without much luck. He was basically put through the running rail at Flemington., and then was outclassed in a G1 Champion Stakes at Randwick over the 2000m in a very forgetful prep. Back for another go, he is a proven first up winner at this distance and the booking of J Kah is a positive push here. Drawn softly, and likely to have improved with some racing experience under his belt now.
R8 #3 Pal D’oro $4.00 at PlayUp
Surprised that this horse didn’t open up as favourite here, a very progressive 4yo on his way up in a leading stable. His last start Caulfield win was very strong, putting away a handy field by over 2L. He has now won two from three this prep, and is clearly racing in outstanding form. Drawn well middle of the pack for J Allen, he should get the right run in transit and looks very well placed now up in grade.
Warwick Farm
R3 #3 Stick To Your Guns $4.60 at PlayUp
Racing on a heavy track in Sydney this Wednesday, and I like this Newnham gelding to win on the wet. He comes into this race third up and fit, including a placing behind the talented French Emperor last start, and a win here at the track two runs ag0. 1400m now will suit, and he has a 2nd placing on a heavy behind Minsk Moment last prep, and even beat Bend The Knee who went on to win at Flemington during the Spring Carnival. Form lines are very strong, and he is drawn suitably wide on this wet deck.
R5 #10 Roots $3.20 at PlayUp
Keen to see this Waller filly resume here, who is yet to miss a placing in three career starts that includes a debut Goulburn win. She then ran 2nd to Fangirl in a Listed event at Randwick, showcasing she has some ability. Two quiet trials leading into this race, but that is commonplace for this stable with a talented horse. Drawn well, and the booking of J McDonald is a huge push, as he is yet to ride here in any races or trials. Tipping she will be finding black type success during the Autumn, and it all starts here.
