Saturday selections from the PlayUp form analyst.
Rosehill R1 #2 Secret Glamour $4.60 at PlayUp – This Maher and Eustace runner has returned in excellent for this prep, with a very good second placing upon resumption building the platform for a strong last start victory. She was forced to sit four deep without cover at Sandown over the mile, and still had the audacity to streak away at the top of the straight to win. Although tiring through the line, I think that was telling of the hard run she endured. Third up and can peak here, stepping to 1800m will be no issue seeing she almost ran that far last start anyway, and she gets a much kinder barrier draw today.
Rosehill R3 #2 Garza Blanca $2.15 at PlayUp – This very smart 3yo put it all together to win last start, scoring in a dominant display over the highly touted Greece, and other Saturday class runners in Crosswinds and Calico Jack. He sat handy to a hot speed in front, going close to 6L quicker than average to the 600m mark. He kicked away dominantly on the turn, and eased down over the line for a very good win. He ran the 3rd best 400-200m split of the entire meeting when extending away from his rivals, and I’m confident he should be able to go on with it in arguably an easier event now.
Rosehill R9 #10 I Am Me $1.70 at PlayUp – I’m very confident this horse is a group winner in waiting come the Autumn carnival next year, and I see no problems with her progressing through benchmark grade throughout the Summer until then. She was extremely dominant first up winning at Rosehill, putting a weaker field away under hands and heels riding with a lot left in reserve. Second up here and should only be improved from that, she sticks to 1100m which is her pet distance, and gets in with absolutely no weight on her back. With respect to the opposition here, she looks far better than them and should be winning with even luck.
Pakenham R1 #12 Matron Bullwinkel $3.90 at PlayUp – Very progressive Maher and Eustace runner who comes here for her third start of the prep. She was luckless first up at Geelong getting back behind a slow tempo and seeing nothing but backsides in the straight. She won narrowly during the Flemington carnival over 1700m under James McDonald, and on face value the win might seem narrow but stayers don’t usually have a strong record at that stage of the prep. Now deeper into the prep, drawn perfectly in barrier two, and finally founds herself back out to the staying 2000m. Should be winning here, getting in at a super light weight as well.
Pakenham R5 #2 Dusse $3.70 at PlayUp – Thought this horse would be edging close to an odds on quote to be fair, so very happy to chime in at the current price on offer. Two runs this prep, both of them very smart victories in their own right. She knuckled down late in the piece first up to scorch away, and she overcame serious mid race trouble at The Valley last time to win again. Third up and I think looks ready to peak here, and I am not that concerned about the wide draw over 1000m here at Pakenham. She will get back behind midfield, appreciate a strong tempo in front, and be steaming over the top of them late.
