PlayUp form analyst Saturday selections below! Huge Group One day of racing from Royal Randwick with the running of the time-honoured Doncaster Mile as the standout feature.
Randwick R1 #6 Tumbling $10.00 at PlayUp – Looks a good edition of the G3 Kindergarten Stakes for the 2yo’s, and i’m happy to side with the Victorian raider here. Comes off a very dominant debut win at Ballarat over 1000m, where he got back in the field off an even tempo and descended upon them out wide to win effortlessly. He ran the best last 200m sectional of the entire day, and only got stronger past the post which indicates this rise up to 1100m will be right to his liking. Drawn very well and gets the services of an in-form senior rider.
Randwick R6 #1 Cylinder $2.30 at PlayUp – Fourth up and comes off a very gallant 2nd placing in the Golden Slipper only two weeks ago, I think Cylinder is primed for a G1 Sires victory here. Historically speaking, the run in the Slipper prior to this is the exact form line you want to be following, and he did all bar win behind a very good horse. Fourth up and out to 1400m now will suit, he draws perfectly in barrier four and should be given every possible from there. James McDonald sticking is a great sign, and any rain around shouldn’t dampen his chances.
Randwick R8 #7 Converge $11.00 at PlayUp – Going with this Waterhouse and Bott runner in the big one of the afternoon, third up now off the back of a very good minor placing behind Anamoe in the G1 George Ryder. He sat up on speed on a genuine tempo, and was beaten under half a length in the end finishing alongside genuine top liners such as Artorius and Fangirl. He looks to get to the front here quite easily from the barrier, and is a previous G1 winner at this track and distance at the same third up stage of the prep. 52kg on his back, B Prebble booked to ride, confident he gives a huge showing.
Bendigo R7 #12 Is It Me $5.00 at PlayUp – Second up here, and coming off a very unlucky fresh run at Flemington over the 1400m when a firm favourite. He got strung up in traffic from a very awkward settling position behind midfield on the fence, and only got clear inside the last furlong where he flashed home but missed. Still managed to somehow run very good time, and easily wins by a good margin with any clear luck in running. Second up here and is undefeated at this stage of the prep previously, I think the wider draw really suits as it allows him to sit back and in the running line, and get clear air when needed.
Bendigo R8 #5 Munhamek $2.50 at PlayUp – Struggle to find a more in-form runner in Victoria at the moment other than this horse, who is coming off two very dominant wins at Flemington and Moonee Valley. He thrashed a dominant field over the mile at Flemington in benchmark grade, before graduating to open quality with a low weight and putting an even bigger margin on the field. He is a bombproof galloper who can win from on or off the speed, and that versatility gives him a huge chance here from barrier six where they can either roll forward or take a sit in the running line. Rock hard fit, handles any ground, should win.
