IT’S a huge day for punters coming up this, with Derby Day kickstarting the Flemington Melbourne Cup Carnival down in Victoria, and the running of the $7.5 million dollar Golden Eagle at Rosehill in Sydney.
Our form analyst has cast their eye over the fields, and found give betting opportunities. See them below.
Flemington:
R1 #1 Brigantine $4.80 at PlayUp
Like the look of this Godolphin runner in the opener, who maps to get the right run and has been ultra consistent all prep so far. Brings in Hilal/Coastwatch form at Randwick last start when running 3rd behind that pair, and was a very good 2nd behind Lightsaber two runs back when savaging the line. Very confident the horse will see out 1600m, and maps for a perfect run handy the speed after pushing forward from barrier 7, which gives him a key advantage over his main rivals.

R3 #10 Kapalua Sunset $9.50 at PlayUp
Can’t seem to jump off this horse, especially seeing the books have put up close to double figures about her in this G2 Wakeful Stakes. She SP’d as a deserved short favourite in the Ethereal last start and had absolutely zero luck, shuffled back to last on the turn and resented a very slow tempo throughout. Her win at Kyneton prior was outstanding, and she deserves another chance here especially at the price.

R5 #3 Tofane $3.20 at PlayUp
This mare was outstanding in the G1 Toorak last start, bursting through in restricted room to only be outdone by the favourite on the line. She was held up at vital points in running too, and with even luck may have actually won. Fourth up here and ready to hold peak, she maps for a perfect run out of barrier two and brings in such superior form lines now having her sixth consecutive start in a G1 race. Drops 1kg, C Williams retains the booking and sticks to 1600m as well.

Rosehill:
R7 #2 I’m Thunderstruck $3.70 at PlayUp
A deserved favourite here in the Golden Eagle of 2021, having overcome adversity to win the G1 Toorak very impressively last time out. Held up at multiple times during running, he burst clear late to put the field away. Travels to Sydney for the first time, but Mick Price speaking during the week is very bullish about his chances after travelling down up well. Bowman jumping aboard is a significant booking, and he looks perfectly drawn from the middle of the gates to settle around midfield and be too good late.
