Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst.
Warwick Farm R1 #9 Miyoshi $3.10 at PlayUp – Strong 2yo event to kickstart the day, and with race experience on her side I think Miyoshi can factor closely in the finish. SP’d as an $18 chance on debut but ran well above her price, finishing less than half a length off the winner here over 1100m. She sat last off a strong tempo, and still recorded the second fastest last 200m sectional of the entire program, with a big gap to third. Gets a handy claim again, and should improve with natural progression and race fitness on her side.
Warwick Farm R3 #9 Twice As Special $8.00 at PlayUp – Think this mare represents good value here, especially seeing she only carries 54kg in a very evenly matched race. She was super unlucky in harder grade at Randwick last start, getting caught well back in the field on the inside fence behind a very slow tempo. It made it an impossible winning position for her, but she savaged the line in inferior going once clear, with all her closing sectionals well above benchmark average. She loves the wet, and maps to find clear running today.
Sandown R4 #1 Zipping Boy $2.35 at PlayUp – Comes off a very strong second placing behind Daralina Belle at Caulfield first up, where he arguably would’ve won with an easier run in transit. With a lack of race fitness, he was made to sit three wide without cover on speed, and they flew along in front as well making it even harder. He managed to kick 2L clear in the straight, but fell in a hole the last 50 metres and was nailed on the line by a smart winner. He still somehow managed to run the fourth best last 200m split of the entire day! Second up here, where he is a proven winner at this stage, and gets a big 3kg claim for an in-form apprentice.
Sandown R6 #5 True Grit $8.50 at PlayUp – Going with value in an extremely competitive sixth race, and off an unlucky first up effort True Grit can atone now. He was tailed off and last over the 1200m on the Lakeside track last start, and that was a horrible place to be given the huge on-pace bias of the afternoon. His final furlong through the line was extremely eye catching, running a meeting fastest last 200m off a strong tempo. Gets out to 1400m now is a positive, drawn well and gets D Lane to boot.
Sandown R7 #13 Orlando Grove $21.00 at PlayUp – Huge priced runner here, but I think you can do worse than back it on an each way basis. Two starts ago she was very good at Geelong behind proven midweek winner Butter Blonde. She hit the line with the fastest closing sectionals of the day, and was unlucky not to win. Far from disgraced last start, set a solid tempo and was run down late. She will only carry 51.5kg here from a very suitable inside barrier, and if she replicated the run of two starts back she should be in the finish.
