Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst.
Sandown R2 #2 Emerald Jack $4.60 at PlayUp – Competitive race, but happy to be with this runner at a backable quote. He comes off a good last start win at Pakenham over the mile, where he was held up badly behind tiring horses on the turn, but got clear inside the last furlong to fly home and win. He puts a better margin on them with even luck, and ran some very good sectionals home in the process. Third up now and rock hard fit, clearly in form and sticks to the 1600m from a reasonable draw. Thinking with upside, he may be the one to go on with it here.
Sandown R4 #9 Submerge $9.00 at PlayUp – Going for one at value here in Submerge, who is racing very well without much luck this prep. He ran a very close 2nd two runs ago at Pakenham, and should’ve gone much closer at Bendigo over 1400m last start. He bombed the start there, and was not even on screen at stages during the run. The leader went quite slow to the 600m mark, meaning it was always going to be near impossible for this horse to win from his stone motherless last settling position. He flew home out wide in the third fastest last 200m split of the entire meeting, and now up in distance can go a few better.
Sandown R5 #2 Midtown Boss $3.90 at PlayUp – Coming off a very impressive maiden win last start at Geelong, think this horse can go two from two to start the prep. He put 2L on them over the 1200m fresh, looping the field and being eased up over the line in dominant fashion. He still ran the fastest last 400m and 200m’s of the entire day, and he had a lot more left up his sleeve. Fitter now, drawn perfectly to settle closer in barrier two, and finds a completely winnable midweek BM64 against his own age group.
Warwick Farm R2 #1 Green Shadows $5.50 at PlayUp – Ran very well last start in a much harder affair than this, finishing 5th beaten just under 2L in a Rosehill BM72. He got back from the widest draw there, and the leader went very slow in front making it a hard winning position. He ran home in the fastest sectionals of the meeting, and with a quicker tempo may have gone closer to winning. Third up here, gets a crucial 3kg claim for a very in-form apprentice, and can settle much handier from barrier three here. Think he has been missed by the market, and looks a great bet at the price.
Warwick Farm R7 #15 West Of Africa $8.50 at PlayUp – G1 runner returning here, after last being seen finishing down the track in a G1 JJ Atkins back in June. Although well held, he was only beaten 6.5L at the highest level, and prior to that had only been beaten a few lengths in G3 and Listed races. He looks the clear class of this field upon his resumption to racing, and I really like what I have seen at the trials from him this time in. Three trials should have him fit and forward, and he looks to map very well from a midfield barrier here. 1300m is a good kick off point, and he shouldn’t know himself now as a furnished 3yo in a midweek BM64.
