Racing Tips: 22nd October

Huge day of G1 racing with the time honoured Cox Plate from The Valley, and the G1 Spring Champion stakes from Randwick. Take a look at the PlayUp form analyst selections below.

Moonee Valley R4 #10 Everglade $8.50 at PlayUp – Was very impressed with the debut win of this filly at the track and distance last start, recording an all the way victory under D Oliver. It was off the back of some very impressive jump outs as well, so I think she is a serious talent. Returns to the Valley 1200m, and is drawn ever better this time around from barrier four. I think she will be even more improved when ridden with a sit, so if he parks her in the one-one position, she should improve again. The double figure price looks ridiculous overs.

Moonee Valley R6 #6 Gentleman Roy $4.00 at PlayUp – Comes to this race fourth up and looks ready to peak, and my main reason of putting him on top here is off the back of his gallop Tuesday morning. He ran his last 400m only half a length slower than Eleven Eleven, who was the quickest of the morning and lines up in a G1 Manikato Stakes on Friday night. He could provide a serious form line if he was to win or run well in that race, and Gentleman Roy’s racing pattern of on speed and controlling the tempo means he profiles as a very good Valley horse.

Moonee Valley R7 #1 Berkeley Square $2.35 at PlayUp – This horse is one of the more exciting prospects racing around Melbourne at the moment, and gets a chance at a deserved group level win. He was ultra impressive to score in the LR Exford Plate two runs ago when coming from a near impossible position, and should’ve undoubtedly gone close to winning the G1 Caulfield Guineas last start. Up to 2040m for the first time, but i’m sure he will eat up the extra distance and he retains the services of Everest winning jockey Craig Williams.

Randwick R8 #1 Elliptical $4.20 at PlayUp – Third up and ready to peak in this G1 race, i’m confident Elliptical can get the job done. Both runs this prep have been extremely promising, none more so than a fast finishing effort in the G1 Caulfield Guineas last start. A few more strides and he wins the race, coming from a near impossible winning position on the turn. 1600m up to 2000m now at this stage of the prep is ideal, and I have no concerns he won’t get the trip. Barrier one allows him to settle handier today, and Blake Shinn is riding in very good form at the moment, striking above 20%.

Randwick R10 #5 Bacchanalia $5.50 at PlayUp – Looks primed for a win here third up the Godolphin runner, coming off a very good 2nd behind Remarque in testing conditions last time out. He sat handy to the speed and fought on well to be only beaten 1.5L on the line, and clearly does his best work in rain affected conditions. All four career victories have come on wet ground, and i’m tipping by race ten we will be seeing some heavy going at Randwick. Draws perfectly to position handy to the speed, and can be winning here.
