Big day of racing from Queensland and Adelaide, with Group One races to be decided in both states on Saturday afternoon. Our PlayUp form expert has identified three tips at Doomben, and a few from Flemington as well. Take a look below.
Doomben R5 #4 Dzsenifer $9.50 at PlayUp – Happy to stick with the Silk Stocking form line that this horse brings in, winning that Listed event first up by half a length over fellow rival April Rain. It was a really good win coming from beyond midfield to score, and now second up is sure to be improved. One for one undefeated on heavy going shows she will appreciate the wet surface, and her second up form is dynamite having won two from four, with a second placing as well. 3:2-1-0 at the track and trip, it’s all tick tick tick for this horse.
Doomben R6 #12 Taksu $6.50 at PlayUp – A horse who is racing in outstanding form this prep, with two wins and two second placings to its name from the four starts. He blew them away at Randwick over 1300m last start, winning by a comfortable 4.7L on the line eased down after leading throughout. That was on a heavy 10, so he clearly appreciates the really wet going that he will find again on Saturday. Has been kept up to the mark with a trial in the interim, and the booking of W Pike is a solid push.
Doomben R8 #14 Chandon Burj $19.00 at PlayUp – Going with a Victorian form line here, in a horse who has done nothing but improve as it steps up in grade and distance. It ran second behind the very talented Tahlequah three starts back, and since then has recorded back to back victories with the latest being over a mile at Cranbourne. Two wins in soft going, including a soft 7 victory, tells me she should be handling the heavy surface, and the step to 2000m for the first time will definitely be more a positive than a hinderance. Drawn well, leading Queensland jockey engaged, I think it’s over the odds.
Flemington R4 #2 Canbya $12.00 at PlayUp – Very impressive winning at Sandown last start, in what was her first run in Melbourne. She sat back off a hot speed and came wide in the straight to let down with a blistering turn of foot, running the fastest last 200m sectional of the entire day to win. She looks extremely progressive, and clearly has no issues with the Melbourne way of going. With her racing style, the wide Flemington circuit will definitely suit and with a leading rider engaged I think she is a serious chance of winning again.
Flemington R8 #8 Skyman $7.50 at PlayUp – Has had two very strong runs so far this prep, including a last start fourth where he almost came from an impossible winning position to score. He sat back near last behind an extremely slow tempo, with the leader going 9L slower than average to the 600m mark. He closed off with a very strong last 200m split that rated inside the top five of the day, and only just missed. Third up fitter, and returns to Flemington where his racing style will really suit this spacious track.
