Racing Tips: 15th February

Midweek selections from the PlayUp form analyst as we edge closer to another huge G1 weekend of racing.

Let’s make some midweek profit to set us in good stead for Saturday, take a look at the tips below.

Sandown

R1 #8 Spring Valley
Very good 3rd at Stony Creek when resuming, attempting to come from a near impossible winning position at the rear of the field. The leader ended up being the winner, so the shape of the race was completely against. She still ran the meeting fastest last 200m through the line, and her last 400m and 600m figures were equally as strong. Second up here, out to 1300m a positive, and has drawn nicely to settle handier to the speed today.

R2 #3 Maroubra
Interesting 2yo runner here who was unwanted in betting on debut at this track and distance last start, but ran well above his odds. He got back in running as the leader crawled, going almost 5L slower than average to the 600m mark. He was held up for a run in the straight, and once clear late really exploded through the line with the third fastest last 200m sectional of the day. Second up now with race experience and fitness, he is drawn suitably wide for his racing pattern and can go one better.

R7 #9 Universal Lady
Very good run last start at The Valley behind Okay To Pay, especially seeing it didn’t have the clearest of paths to the line. She really worked home well according to the data though, running her last 200m split 4L quicker than standard for the class, and it was also the second best sectional of the entire meeting. Back to Sandown should really suit her, and if she can hold form she will be a serious player here.

Randwick

R2 #4 Stray
Keen to see this runner resume in a very weak 3yo maiden here at the midweeks. There is little doubt this horse has good ability, and was seriously unlucky not to win last prep first up at this track and distance. Clearly a filly that can fly fresh, she has drawn very nicely here and finds an easily winnable race. A previous G1 contender who looks extremely well placed today, keen to have a good bet.

R6 #9 Laurelin
Very keen on this Godolphin horse resuming here, and the market has already given some strong confidence in its chances. First up, this lightly raced conveyance has won one from two career starts so far, and a trial win leading into this run shows she is right back on the mark. She won a very smart race here at the track last year, including Beep Test who is a two time city winner. J McDonald booked for the ride, and jumps from barrier one, she looks very hard to beat.
