Flemington R1 #6 Sweet Sixteen $4.40 at PlayUp – Very keen to give this Snowden horse another chance here, after recording two wins and an unlucky second placing from only the three starts this campaign. She is obviously racing in very good form, and her win at Pakenham over 1200m two runs ago was very dominant. She came from last on that day and went past them in the blink of an eye. She almost repeated that effort last start but was baulked for a run at a crucial stage while the winner flew uninterrupted down the outside to win. Fourth up now, peak fitness holds great form and can fly home in the big field on a very suitable Flemington surface.
Flemington R5 #16 Modear $8.50 at PlayUp – Great each-way opportunity here in Modear, who has either won or placed in 5 of her last 8 runs since resuming from a spell. She got a million miles back as a favourite at Sandown last start and managed to grab 3rd only beaten 0.85L on the line in what was a huge effort. Her straight track form is outstanding, including a win over 1000m, a 3rd behind Absolute Flirt in which she also beat subsequent winner Li’l Kontra, a 5th behind Riding The Wave, Alburq and multiple city winner I’m Telling Ya and even managed to finish right alongside Garner and Dirty Work in the Listed Incognitus Stakes back in early 2020. She gets in here with only 51kg after the claim, finds the right part of the track from barrier 8, and is surely a huge shout at her current quote.
Flemington R8 #3 Halvorsen $9.00 at PlayUp – Keen on another each-way ticket here for Halvorsen, who was 7 weeks between runs when finishing 2nd to Sartorial Splendour over 1000m here last start. He got back in the small field and was no hope from there, with the race shape completely against him as the leader/winner dictated proceedings in front. He still let down with the fastest last 600/400/200m splits of the entire meeting, and there was a big gap back to third. Fitter now, and stepping up to 1200m will really suit him. He had three runs down the straight last prep and finished behind G1 winners Fabergino, Nature Strip and Zoutori in all three of those starts. This is a much easier race, well-weighted and can win.
Rosehill R3 #1 Charleise $7.00 at PlayUp – Very interesting to see this Victorian raider appear at Rosehill, coming off a very high rating run last start at Sandown when finishing 2nd to Bon’s Abroad. That is a very strong form line, and it was actually this mares’ highest run rating since she finished 7th behind Loving Gaby in 2019. She is really hitting her straps this prep, and comes here with a crucial 2kg claim for Louise Day and jumps from a suitable wider barrier. Her peak set up is here, 1500m with a wider draw, good speed on paper allowing her to get home late, and even drops down in grade to this bm72 level. Watch for her to storm over the top of them late.
Rosehill R9 #6 Tooradin $8.00 at PlayUp – Another Melbourne horse who has been overlooked by the market, Tooradin is currently racing in outstanding form and has seemingly flown under the radar here. He comes off two straight wins, at Pakenham and last start at Warrnambool where he beat a cracking bm70 field by close to two lengths on the line. Fourth up now rock hard fit, making his Sydney debut and looks very well placed in an open bm78 field. Most importantly, he strikes a wet track in which he thrives in, and could pull off a great run rating here from a good draw. Drops 3.5kg in weight thanks to the claim, and confident the stable wouldn’t have him here unless they think he can run very well and perhaps progress on to better assignments.
