Horse Racing Tips June 23rd

Some midweek racing selections from our PlayUp analyst today. Covering both Cranbourne and Canterbury, where we will be operating on rain-affected going. We have found a few horses who are in good form, have drawn well and should appreciate getting their toe into the ground as well.

CranbourneR1 #9 Sister Vianney $0.00 at PlayUp – Well done if you found the $20+ when markets opened, but even still at the current quote this horse is worth a speculative bet. She finished near last on debut at Sale over 1100m, and while that doesn’t sound attractive on paper, it was what happened in the run that opens her to a bet here. She was in behind the speed that day and got shuffled back as they turned for home. She was held up behind the field for the entirety of the straight, and seemingly had a lot to offer as she crossed the line untested. That looked a strong race, and with even luck here she should be going much closer.
Cranbourne R5 #10 The Sisters $0.00 at PlayUp – Definitely another each-way bet here in the sisters, who comes into this bm70 second-up off a win in a lowly 0-58 handicap last start fresh. This obviously would seem too hard for her, but the way in which she won fresh by 4.5L and the second-fastest last 200m split of the entire day indicates she has come back in very sharp form. Only carries 52kg here after the claim, has a soft draw and is proven to handle wet conditions. This is a big test, but she looks a mare in outstanding form and should be right around the money.
Cranbourne R8 #3 Reliable Dude $0.00 at PlayUp – This horse has entered my black book in his past three starts, by either running very well or not having much luck… or both. Last start at Sandown on a heavy 8 over the mile, he ran the fastest last 600m split of the race against a huge on pace bias to finish third. Go back three starts to Caulfield and he sat three-wide no cover on the speed that day, and after battling through the line was only beaten late by a winner who walked in front and controlled the tempo. This is the easiest race he has found in a while, D Lane hops back aboard and he gets the wet track to suit as well.

Canterbury R1 # 5 Tavi L’amour $0.00 at PlayUp – Keen on the O’Shea first starter here, who has shown enough at the trials leading in to think that she will make a handy racehorse. She closed off strongly from the rear over the 1050m at Randwick in her first trial, showing sustained speed and held it through the line. She then returned to that distance for her second trial and again worked home very solidly past horses late. James McDonald is riding in outstanding form, with over 30 winners from his last 100 rides and a very solid ROI to boot. He gets the ride here from a soft draw in an even 2yo race.
Canterbury R2 #6 Minsk Moment $0.00 at PlayUp – Another J McDonald ride here, this time for the Waller camp with debutant Minsk Moment, who will jump from barrier one and looks to control the race from there. Two trials so far this prep have been strong, including a very good win over 900m at Rosehill, and a solid 3rd on a heavy 8 last time behind I Am Single. He should boot up from the low draw and settle himself on speed, and then hopefully with the option to angle off the fence in the wet going which is where the better ground is likely to be.
