Horse Racing Tips 9th January 2021

A great day of racing country wide, with some quality events taking place. The feature is at the Gold Coast, as the Magic Millions race series starts to really heat up. Some leading jockeys have made the trip north to join the local hoops, and it promises for a great day of competitive racing. There is listed events at Flemington and Randwick, as well as racing from Murray Bridge, and Ascot as well. Take a look at our suggested bets for this Saturday.

Flemington R3 #4 White Hibiscus $2.00 at PlayUp – No spoils on the price, but she likely starts well into red figures and the ability to still get on at around even money looks a gift. Third up here and coming out of a midweek BM64 win on the Lakeside where she absolutely toyed with her rivals, putting over 2L on smart types like Livingstone Falls et al. Third up here and may have even improved off that effort, sticks to the mile distance and looks to map perfectly from barrier three, getting every favour in the run. Even though technically in harder grade, this looks a very weak Saturday event and she should be taking care of this field.

Flemington R5 #4 Malicorne $5.50 at PlayUp – Happy enough to play this horse here, who looks the bet after marrying up some form lines of recent starts of the competitors. Malicorne comes off a dominant first up win at The Valley, where she punched forward to lead, controlled and kicked away effortlessly in the straight to win. Her second up record is very strong, last prep she beat River Twain second up at Kilmore, and that horse has a fair share of ability. Now with the form lines, Miss Bank Place sat outside Malicorne in the run at The Valley with every chance, and faded to be beaten 5.7L. Miss Bank Place then went to Caulfield where she managed to finish close up behind Zoushine. If she was beaten so comprehensively by Malicorne, and then finished so close to Zoushine, the form line of Malicorne looks to be the stronger.

Flemington R6 #3 Mosh Music $3.40 at PlayUp & #4 Defibrillate $4.80 at PlayUp – Two bet play here in R6 with what looks to standout winning chances in a rather week event over the 2000m. They both come out of the same race last start at Caulfield, which was a Listed event over 1700m. Starting with Mosh Music, who settled last in running off a very slow tempo which made it near impossible for her to win. She closed off in the fastest last 600/400/200m of the entire day from back in the field, putting the writing on the wall for a step up in trip here. She is drawn much kinder today and can be a few pairs closer in running, and also gets a 1.5kg drop in weight. Defibrillate was the winner of the race, unleashing a similarly strong turn of foot to burst through and win lat in the piece, with the equal fastest last 200m sectional of the day. The 2000m will really suit him as well, but he does have to hold weight and is drawn wide now. Their current odds allow for even staking to profit if either win.

Randwick R6 #1 King Of Hastings $13.00 at PlayUp – Surprised there is double figure odds on offer about this talented Melbourne horse, who can struggle to put it together at times, but when he does he is undoubtedly a very good horse. Second up here racing in NSW for the first time, but he has trialled at Rosehill before in his career and looked very much at home in the Sydney way of going. His run over 1200m fresh was sound at Caulfield, and he has a very strong second up record as well. Sticking to 1200m here will really suit, and he drops from a listed event down to BM88, and only rises 1kg thanks to the claim. He looks to be on his way to the Magic Millions race series, so don’t be surprised with a very forward showing here down in class.

Gold Coast R5 #10 Tullio $4.20 at PlayUp – First up here with only 54kg, Tullio looks a bet in R5. Has been prepared for this with a very soft trial at Doomben, his first up record is very strong, and he currently stands at two starts for two wins over the Gold Coast 900m. A very speedy son of More Than Ready, he looks perfectly drawn in barrier three, and he gets the services of Craig Williams as well, who is not up there for a holiday. Any rain about would enhance his chances, but confident enough he can get it done on the firmer going as well.
